This is actually pretty accurate for when I was in school; I learnt a lot about proxies and networking whilst bypassing the school's content filters :D

This is unfortunately a bit tricky as DNSimple doesn't let you update your NS records for the root domain with them. My computer seems to be going through DNSimple still, but Pingdom went via iWantMyName to find my new Route 53 nameservers.

I'm having an interesting issue where my root domain is currently getting its nameserver details from DNSimple, whereas www. is getting them from iWantMyName. Hopefully that rotates around too at some point soon :\

I've just switched over to Route 53 as this attack is still ongoing. Alas the DNS is one of the last things you think about when building an app, you just assume that it's going to work and entirely forget it exists while it is working :\

Yep, I just got whacked by this at https://www.photographer.io (www is working at least). Guess I've learnt my lesson about using the root domain. However I'm glad this happened whilst I was still beta testing! My CloudFront stack was poi

I had almost this exact same idea last year (a one-off blogging platform). It wouldn't have looked anywhere near this nice though, good work :)

It looks good (somewhat like the better parts of Google+) and I like that you're looking at other ways of monetising it than advertising. Personally I'd be more likely to pay a one-off fee for a mobile app than a subscription, but that migh

I use it primarily because I like the tab-indented syntax. I seem to be in the minority with that, but I've never liked CSS syntax.

Hell I'm 25 and struggled with some of those font sizes. I probably do need to get my prescription altered, however.

This may well be a direction I take it in future once I have more data to make a more informed decision :)

Aye, it does seem to be a very interchangeable term. I use 'Like' in the article much as you would see on Facebook. I currently have a simplistic following feature implemented but it's on the roadmap to offer suggestions based on what you'v

Sorry for any oddities in the way the article is written; I haven't posted anything on a blog in quite a while and I'm a bit rusty :) More data is definitely needed and I'm open to altering the system once I understand better how it's worki

Great feedback, thanks! Your last paragraph is something I've been considering as a next evolution of how it's implemented, but I'm waiting for more data (and time!) before I take a look at developing it further :)

I must admit that it is pretty arbitrary; it's something I'll be monitoring and revising in future depending on how it's used.

Thanks for the links; I'll definitely be reading through those later (as this field is very interesting to me)! I think I may have confused matters somewhat by comparing directly to a 'Like', which is more like a 0-1 rating system, rather t

I handle this slightly differently in that your recommendations are not publicly browsable, and should they become so then that will be disableable by a configuration option. I very much want to use it as a method of exploration, rather th

I have considered more complex systems (i.e. dynamically altering the value of recommendations) and it's something that's likely to feature in the future. However I needed a simple solution for now whilst the site is developing, and I took

I launched the beta of my own photo sharing site a few weeks back and the new Flickr design is somewhat similar in parts (flexible width/tiling photos). It seemed logical to me to adopt a Pinterest style grid for varying size images, rather

Lightroom integration is something I'm keen on. In regards to RAW storage; would that be for backups?

Doh, I feel like a pillock now - didn't realise Dean was talking about openphoto. I've not seen it before; it's a great idea. I haven't got an API yet (but it will be coming soon after beta) and I'm all about freedom of data and information

These are definitely on the horizon. This is one of the things that has been on my to-do list from the start. I did look into how the integrations work, IIRC Lightroom was pretty straightforward, but I assume Aperture can't be that much mor

Photo import is something I want to offer, but I need to make sure it doesn't break the terms of service of the other sites before I add it :) I'm working out the subscription cost at the moment; I'm currently thinking around £25 per year.
