Good to know! I figured there was a good reason.

Why not buy an RV? More space or just the fun of customizing the thing from the ground up?

The add to cart button seems to work inconsistently. The images and the page loads also pretty inconsistently (I am in Tucson if that helps).

I like instacart but its frontend needs a lot of work. Until amazon fresh exists where I live it is nice to have around.

This is interesting because language servers are interesting. I will probably hold out for a vim language server client that isn't just a port of nvim's.

I still use vim over pycharm and I write quite a bit of python and spent quite a bit of time using pycharm and setting it up. Most big IDE features break down in large code bases and for simple code bases, vim's python support is fine.

No, you understand. Just not sure what failure mode would make kafka a bad store, especially if all its logs are created from other services.

Fair enough. It seems like it still ought to be able to burn the kafka+elasticsearch world down and submit everything to kafka with such a setup (and thus elasticsearch). I would certainly not sleep very well at night if I could not.

I skimmed the article but I imagined they were using it as a secondary data store. I think they want to it to be durable in the sense that even if the events are already consumed they can still play them back to reindex elastic search (whic

I am surprised more states do not have laws like Hawaii's where you are required to provide beach access. Shame for such a nice beach to go to waste.

I think UE4 brings a lot to the table for certain genres and game designs. If you need really nice animation, nice character locomotion, vehicles etc... UE4 seems like it is easier in the long run despite it being daunting when you boot it

That may be true but desert cities are still a reality. It might be possible somehow "close" these cities but that seems like something that is not going to happen anytime soon unless they simply become uninhabitable. So given peo

I used to feel the same way in regards to a lot of technology. I think this is the problem with trying to be a generalist is it seems like you need to be an expert at everything. Machine learning might be a great area to specialize in these

I wonder how realistic a static computer could be given its full of app-stores and internet. I imagine video game consoles and other forms of electronics, at least up until recently probably were build as you say.

Interesting! Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose if you have a strange shader that does some non-linear stuff it also might be more obvious to the programmer to use something higher precision or tweak how the math is done.

I have always found the daemons that come (or don't come) with linux rather odd. I suppose it is a quirk of how it is developed and who is responsible for what? I agree that ping should probably not use setuid. Setuid seems like a hack

I have noticed that with UE4 and houdini as well. I assume to some extent it makes sense if you are actually navigating a GUI as complex as that. Still drives me crazy though.

It is sad that bug has been open for so long. It seems like it would be better to have some kind of dns proxy daemon running that libc talks to that can pick up these changes immediately but I guess that is out of the scope of libc :)

If you were just doing image compositing would this be an issue? I can easily imagine how that would adversely effect a 3d game where the images are used as texture maps and the values of the diffuse texture map may change from other lighti

I think matching + destructuring solve similar but different problems. Often times, items you don't need to do something based on some unbounded set of things nor do you need an abstraction. For example, if I am writing a logic system

I think it becomes useful only if whatever struct expects some extra level of behavior from the types. Basically any time a struct or a trait is coupled with another trait or needs a particular marker/lifetime to function I find myself

Yeah it seems like you would need some kind of guard to make sure you don't violate any of the lifetimes that could be tucked away. Still good work! I guess compiler plugins and libraries will eventually fill in the gaps, until then I

"Idea: implied bounds" sounds like a very interesting idea. It is a pain copying the bounds as author mentions. I also have worked with library code that does not consistently use trait bounds and it can lead to very confusing err

I think the UI is the least of the game's problems. It seems like each release Toady introduces more bugs and game design problems than solutions. It is still worth playing for the weird level of detail and depth but I have a hard time

Similar problem with their not so new ps4 app. I think it is less the rendering, but the fact that it doesn't prefetch anything ever? Either way it is painful to drill into a particular show from the top level.

I think a far more useful way to divide up software engineers is by how good they are at gathering requirements/understanding the problem they have been tasked with. That said, and this might be crazy... but sometimes it is nice to hav
