Not the op, but until recently I felt like while Apple's apps were going downhill, its OS stayed very good, both in terms of user friendliness and stability. With High Sierra, any trust I had was utterly shattered.

They do have it. It's called `posix_spawn`[0]. Most systems implement it using clone/execve I assume. [0] http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/functions/pos...

That's actually a huge annoyance of mine. There's no stable, cross-platform web API to get raw sockets, and I'm not sure why.

This is wrong, on so, so, so many levels. Yes, I get that the best way to maintain relationships is in meatspace, but this isn't really possible anymore. People move, meet online, etc... This doesn't mean they stop being friends.

Pfft. I'm a switch owner, and while I do agree the dual nature of the Switch looked gimmicky, it turned out to be surprisingly useful, more than I expected. But that's besides the point. The thing about "performance" is

I have no idea where you get all that. I've done a few reports on bugzilla, bugs in firefox on ArchLinux (so linux, and not a standardized setup). They've all been answered, and most have been fixed. Sometimes, I've been told

"Backward compatibility" is holding back creativity a fair bit, I would think. You can build two completely different cathedrals, both surviving the ages. But straying from the fork/exec pattern would make you completely inco

On one part, I agree. On another, Average DevJoe on the Apple dev forums knew about it two weeks ago. It's scary to think about how many bad actors have known about it, and might have weaponized it given it is wormable, during that tim

The fact they learned this only yesterday is amazingly stupid to start with. People were talking about this weeks ago on the Apple Forums, as a "neat trick" : https://twitter.com/fristle/status/93567047

OVH is a giant hosting company in Europe, providing dedicated servers to quite a lot of companies. Half the internet here was borked. A translation service, a few developer tools, etc... Sure, it's less dramatic than AWS going down,

For a side-project of mine, I decided to not use babel (or typescript or any transpilation at all), and I've got to say, post-babel life is awesome. Sure, you're limited in browser support. But it makes life so much easier, iterat
