I've got my granddad's boxed and mint condition Dragon 32 sitting next to me. It looks so cool and was fun to get his hand-written code working again after over 30 years. I've been meaning to document it all! Some fun I had w

Yes, though it's too much to explain in a comment here. Take a look at the interactivity example as that should hopefully show how it can be done: https://github.com/UDST/vizicities/blob/master/examp

Thank you! The performance could be a bit of both I imagine – a computer with a weak GPU or a visualisation at sufficiently large resolution will strain the framerate, especially the higher quality demos (eg. "All The Things"). Th

Thank you! I'm glad that you found the development post on MozHacks useful – I should really do a 2016 updated version...

There will be soon, yes. Right now the ground is flat in ViziCities but there are plans to add 3D terrain, though it's not a simple feat. It's possible to extend ViziCities to do this yourself.

I've no experience of Worldwind but Cesium and ViziCities both use WebGL and both display the same kind of data. Cesium is built around the concept of a round, globe-like representation of the world whereas ViziCities is a flat represe

The examples on the GitHub repo (like this basic one: http://vizicities.com/demos/basic/ ) use an OpenStreetMap tile endpoint provided by Mapzen and so will work anywhere in the world. The caveat being that the Ope

That sounds very similar to what I experienced, it was exactly like my limbs went dead and just didn't want to move properly, even though I was telling them to. Practically zero deliberate control. Glad you got yourself out of it ok th

Just thinking about this terrifies me... When I was 18 I was effectively drowning at sea after (stupidly) swimming out to a bouy (100m from shore) with my friends. I had a panic attack on the way back for some reason and immediately lost co

Quite likely. I nearly drowned once at sea and my friend came out to get me but I kept dragging him under because I literally had no energy left to do anything, let alone the brain power to coordinate my movements. Fortunately he was a very

I'd be keen to use something like this as an offline library. Is there anything similar that exists out there for auto-detecting data formatting and structure, but as a library instead?

Glad to hear it! I'm sure you'll enjoy trying out NoFlo, even if you don't end up using it for anything.

There are a bunch of examples on the NoFlo website ( http://noflojs.org/example/ ) and also on FlowHub itself, the NoFlo GUI ( http://app.flowhub.io/#example/7804187 ). I'll also be adding simple

I don't know myself (not used FRP) but based on a quick look it seems to be based on asynchronous dataflow programming so I imagine there are a lot of similarities (seeing as FBP is based on dataflow too). I'd love to hear more fr

Weirdly, I hadn't really considered the macro level. My use-case has been incredibly granular (processing flows of large quantities of realtime data) but the idea of using it to monitor large-scale operations would be kinda cool. What

You'd be surprised how quickly you get used to the idea of connecting components together with pipes, even for Web applications. The additional benefit being that once you've written a component once you don't need to rewrite

The GUI with NoFlo is one of the major reasons why this is different to the previous attempts at FBP (that and it's JavaScript). What I also love is that it's all released under MIT: https://github.com/noflo

There are a number of ways, the most obvious being that you can build that smaller, isolated project incredibly quickly using flow-based programming. The thing is though, if you find traditional approaches quicker and easier then they'

That's what I'm finding, the ability to break things down into smaller "sandboxed" components can be incredibly powerful. It still comes with it's own pros and cons, though I've been really enjoying it so far.
