It is a funny read (particularly the line about Vista) but the line that stood out for me was "Here most people will argue that Apple is a hardware company, the software, they’ll say, is there to drive sales of the hardware." I did actually

Same here. They're basing their decision on old data for starters, with the multitasking option in iOS4 it's more likely that the average user will use more data - I'm thinking specifically of streaming radio - but am sure there will be oth

Because it really is worth repeating - the Transmission web interface is pretty awesome. Still, I think this is good news. There was a time I would have jumped at a uTorrent Linux client - and I know I'd still try it out. Transmission has b

Do you just count the prefetch for what it is... a "maybe" page view. Or when the browser shows the prefetched page can it send a "view" (or load it again in the background - but that seems wasteful).

Is "George" a typical example? How many contractors work for less than what they were on when they were salaried? (even after the agency takes their cut).

That explanation never made sense to me. If windows has rotated everything, then chrome is now the right way round again and should appear to render properly. The only reason it does that I can think of, is that chrome loaded when the scr

For as long as I can remember I've always been able to control my dreams. Whenever I've told people this they've looked at me as if I'm making it all up. Nice to know I might not have been imagining it.

Why the downvotes? Do we not care for sarcasm on HN? I think it's a appropriate response too. Wordpress does both hosted and open source, and by all accounts they're doing OK.

Would be nice too if I only saw an RT once, not each time someone else on my list RT's it. Heck, why not update the RT'd by info to include several people - to make it clear. But please, only show me the thing once! Only a slightly differen

What about allowing you to "link" with other peoples "appliances". i.e. family and friends. This way they can back up your information too (encrypted of course, so they can't actually read it). And you only link to people you trust, which s

Of all my problems and concerns about iTunes. Not for a single moment have I ever thought "I wish that search box was a bit bigger" or "that darn cover flow icon is wasting too much space, I wish there was more blank grey space here". Perfo

Certainly seems to be fixed for me now though. The interesting question is how long has this "bug" been present - how long has my account been compromised for?

Would it have been so difficult to undo the usually single screw to enter the battery compartment. And it's clearly stated in the article that the reason they wanted the label on the outside was for "branding". Ridiculous.

Isn't that the entire point of mobile phones having an IMEI number? Hardly new to the iPhone. In fact, it looks as if all they've actually done is the remote-wipe feature of mobile me ... and no one outside apple can get it working again,

I don't know why your friend didn't know that, but I would imagine most of us here in the UK would know what you meant by that. Not that I use it terribly often.

Honestly, in the first second or so it's all about adverts. If an advert is the first thing that catches me eye, then usually I'm gone. I'm particularly sensitive to moving adverts. After that I'm looking for an about page. If I see generic
