This is a good point as well. Getting a raise from $90/hr to $100/hr isn't THAT huge in the grand scheme of things. But getting a raise from $8.00 - $30.00+/hr would be a tough to swallow pill for most small companies.

That is pretty much the situation I was in. I was not long out of High School (actually, I believe I started when I was 16 and thus still in HS) so I did not really expect a huge salary or anything at the time. However, after I graduated an

I once had a job doing web development and programming when I was younger. I was paid somewhere around $8.00/hr. When I asked for a significant raise (i.e. $18-$20/hr) [Still not AWESOME but would have been nice for where I lived] I was tu

Excellent work on the Russian text input. I was easily able to sound out some russian phrases that I know and input them correctly.

I pretty much use it in all of the ways specified above: Sometimes I use it for development: I may need a development environment that I can not set up on my desktop for some random reason. Other times, I use it to test software on various

I agree. There's times where you need a debugger and there's times where you don't. Learning to recognize those situations are valuable, in my opinion. Sometimes good old pen and paper is the best solution when you find yourself getting int

At one of my old jobs, some of the other employees jokingly referred to me as "the master of the arcane." Any time they had a problem they couldn't figure out, they'd come to me and ask me to help with it. My trick was to listen to their pr

Can't seem to edit my post but I remembered what my issue was. I was having trouble, at the time, getting it to work properly with RVM. I don't know if it was something I did wrong or if it was an actual issue. I will investigate tomorrow w

Thank you for reminding me of this. I gave it a try a while back and thought it looked promising. I recall having a couple of very small gripes with it (they really were quite minor and were likely due to my own misunderstanding), but I hon

I'm not entirely certain that they (the cable company) cares. There's the wireless ISP in the area (what the parents currently have) and they didn't seem to fret when that came into the area. This is mostly an old, poor, mill town -- excep

I am originally from rural North Carolina and happen to be visiting my parents at the moment. I'll give a quick run-down of their internet options over the years: From 1995-2000, their only option was dialup. 56k dialup was offered but the

I do not like the addition of the caps, however, I don't think I've ever gotten close to their proposed caps, either. Perhaps their DSL cap, but not the U-Verse cap. (According to my router, I've used 48GB down thus far in March.) I have a

It's funny how different people have different perspectives on the matter. Though, I suppose that's why so much goes into research of such things. For me, I like '$15' vs. '$14.99' or '$15.00'. $15 looks smaller to me than $14.99 and I like

I was the gaim/pidgin lead dev. for many years. That's pretty much the gist of it, from what I can recall. While we aimed to be more cross platform, empathy was more focused on straight up gnome integration.

My typical approach is to just go with the ORM approach while keeping an eye on various query metrics. If I begin to see signs of a slowdown related to a specific query being generated by the ORM, then I will replace it with hand tailored S
