Announcing that you've been backed by YC (or any investors) can be enough of a news story to generate some good press, which is most useful if you can control the timing to coincide with other interesting things that you've done (like big f

I'm okay with this. Their last downtime was 3 years ago. I still get robotic 'network busy' announcements from my mobile phone network, and I pay an awful lot more for that (under an infinitely more draconian contract) than I do for Skype.

Twitter is a different situation. Their previous biz was regular blogging. They thought higher-engagement audio blogging was the next step. They tried it and discovered it was not. Why? Because it took too much energy to create content. So

Your math is just backwards. You have left them with what's taken away, rather than what they keep. A 1M on 2M pre deal would leave the founders with 66%, not 33%.

I appreciate the simplification of a lot of lingo from lean/custdev down to something closer to "you make fewer mistakes when you talk to customers." Much less intimidating and great to see some tangible results already. Will be interested

Yet another example of mistaking a new startup's state with its vision, from the sort of authors who implore people to "launch early" and then critique them for doing so. Bleh.

I disagree with many replies thus far. Take advantage of stuff that already exists outside your building. Don't try to make the office "fun" prematurely, there are lots of places your team can walk to in 5 minutes. Similarly, fancy conferen
