They aren't thinking that far ahead. It is just the immediate rate they are on. If it doesn't work out, they can always go back to Telus, etc at a way better rate than they had as an existing customer.

As an anecdote, my wife and I bought a place with friends because we couldn't afford on our own. People told us we were crazy. We basically bought the worst place in the city even with both families having good incomes (Vancouver).
