I agree wholeheartedly. I first moved to San Francisco in 1998 for reasons unrelated to tech, and despite becoming a software engineer I cheered the effect the dotcom crash had on the city. The people who made the city great were being forc

Absolutely! I wasn't into building with Lego growing up, but my 5yo is and we often go to an aftermarket Lego store to buy bricks in bulk that aren't part of a specific kit.

The comments on this page are very clearly divided between people who at the time were professional web developers and people who were teen code explorers, and I love them both. I never thought I'd feel nostalgic for that time in my li

I loved when I figured out I could get rid of the underline and add a dashed or dotted bottom border instead, it looked so cutting edge at the time.

I recently came across an image I wasn't able to download using dev tools and was shocked. I wish I had had the time to figure it out.

I worked at homeshark.com (later rebranded iown.com) in the 90's, and we absolutely did the spacer gif trick to size our tables.

I very very rarely watch TV, but when I do it's usually on my phone. I don't have a television, so when my wife and I watch a movie together it's on our laptop, but when I'm by myself I prefer my phone.

As a songwriter I really suffer from analysis paralysis, and what kinda helped me was to write a song a day for a month. I'm still not a prolific song writer by any means, but it helped me learn that perfect is the enemy of good enou

Absolutely. I work at a well known tech company, and when we give potential candidates coding tests we give them the option to code in any language they'd like (including pseudo-code), and to use Google if they can't remember the

Objectively they do - they rolled back years of minimalist design on the new MBP: thicker body, more ports, HDMI, card reader, etc.

I recently picked up a copy of a magazine from a Little Free Library and ended up reading it cover to cover. It made me wonder if someone younger than me (I'm right on the line between GenX and Millennial) would have the same experienc

Absolutely. Most engineers who work with sensitive data already know that there are tiers of data sensitivity (Public, Personal, Private), and that info like SSN and CCN are more private than, say, gender or marital status.

If I were given a 15% chance of survival (at best) where the most I could hope for was having a poor quality of life, I wouldn't be interested either. Even it at 2:1 it'd be a tough decision for me.

In my opinion, this is absolutely the right way to go. I know it's a completely different field, but I moderate a fairly large mountain biking forum, and I often have to remove comments that recommend techniques that could result in in

I may be being a little more optimistic than some other people here, but I agree with you. There's a history of larger companies acquiring smaller ones only to ruin them (ahem, Yahoo), so hopefully Prosus understands what makes Stack O

I was in a similar situation with email. In 2005 or so I was migrating to new computer when I found a directory of photos I forgot to back up. Rather than burn them to DVD or upload them to my domain, I decided to just email them to myself.

I sometimes prefer subtle product placement. It looks weird when a character asks for a "beer" at a bar or a "pack of cigarettes" at a bodega. It would feel much more natural they just asked for a pack of Camels.
