No, you don't need one: you are supposed to run your own IPFS node. There are even browsers that supports IPFS out-of-the-box.

It's possible and a proof of concept does exist but it's no more than that currently: http://blog.printf.net/articles/2015/05/29/announcing-gittor...

This is irrelevant because ipfs.io may act as a proxy but content is stored somewhere on the network and accessible via IPFS.

I love P2P but I'm not sure it's the best approach for IM and this kind of application. In particular it makes difficult to sync message history/contacts, it needs more bandwidth than a client/server application and cons

As long as it stays away from a browser it's perfectly fine. I am already using gnash to run flash games and a feature complete open source implementation would be very welcome.

NAT being a security feature is a myth[1][2][3]. Please stop saying this. > but now you're effectively duplicating NAT in IPv6 No, you are not. If you set up a firewall there still is no translation in IPv6, and it's not needed

Every Intel CPU since 2006 and every AMD CPU since 2013 has this stuff. If you care about this possible solutions are: buy pre-2006/pre-2013 hardware; go through some procedure to remove the ME[1]; forget x86 entirely (ARM?) [1]: http

In my case the delay is much worse: around 5s. It seems to be related to DPM. The only description of the problem I have found is here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92982f

I would really like to use just the linux virtual terminal. Unfortunately it has no unicode support and there is an unsolved issue with amd GPUs that causes the switching from a vt to X.org to take an unbearable amount of time. I have to lo

The companies suffer too. American Airlines has lost a lot of money with the their unlimited travel pass and I'm not sure they could revoke all the subscriptions after they figure this out.

Well, companies should think twice before selling unlimited plans. Maybe set a really high cap that's enough to cover 90% of the users but unlimited means unlimited.
