In my opinion, mail crypto needs to become mainstream usable. E.g. even trivial contents should be encrypted by default and this should be usable by default. Currently, S/MIME does a better job than PGP. While the CA-model seems to be

ChefSpec and Test-Kitchen are really awesome. I tend to see Chef as a framework for automating infrastructure, not as a scripting language/environment to define resources. Chef pays off in large scale infra or highly dynamic environmen

exactly. Speed of innovation is how you win. If you start with an MVP, a cheap 5$ droplet at digital ocean is cheaper than the cheapest hetzner server. if you grow and need failover-solutions, you'll run into a lot of devops work when

How do you define scaling if a manual process controlled by another party is involved? Besides that, what do you think that Hetzner does not provide a 2 factor authentication? As Hetzner doesn't use HSTS on their client/api interf

I have to setup things myself on AWS, too, but I can use standard tools like Chef or Puppet and don't have to deal with manual service requests or running a mash-VPN myself to connect my physical machines over a single network just to

If you want to build something sustainable, you earn money or need to be able to scale incredibly well. If you just want to host your private blog, even DigitalOcean provides better packages than Hetzner.

Hopefully this will drive many DE ISPs out of business. Strato, 1&1 and Hetzner are incapable of providing anything besides dumb webhosting and cheap bare metal stuff. I've wasted so many hours trying to explain these companies how

This post contains so many true statements. As beeing a freelance consultant for the past 9 years, I can comprehend every single point of the posting. Especially the premature scaling combined with technical debts is a very common pattern.

For sure the situation would improve very much when some successful "tech founders" are able to invest themselves into tech focussing startups. Currently, this is still a very rare case.

I can't see this. CCC, C-Base… they don't influence the startup scene. Take the successful exits from the past 3-4 years. None of them was influenced by the artsy tech scene. They ware influenced by excellent business concept exe

In the end a developer has to pay her or his rent and food. It's sad to see many hackers in berlin wasting their true skills in unpaid hobby work and sitting in some bozo-driven copycat startups from 9-5 coding in a crappy $language.
