I‘m a generalist. I know I don’t have time to be an expert in everything. I buy a lot of books about a lot of subjects I’m interested in, but I don’t have the time to read all of them. But when some work comes my way, the large bookshelf co

But now you have the tests to be able to refactor the implementation and improve it. I’ve been in too many projects where devs almost never write tests. They cut corners by neither writing tests nor documentation because of time pressure. T

Can you link to an implementation you would consider great? I would just like to compare them. I too find Uncle Bobs “clean code” book very much overrated. My understanding of the “design” aspect of TDD is, that you start from client code

It’s similar in Java, where people often only know about public and private, and forget about package scoped functions. You can use these to test utility functions etc. The post is weird, I agree with almost everything in the first half and

I wonder if the author of the blogpost ever tried Rails’ convention-over-configuration approach. It might be exactly what he means when he says he gets to write less boilerplate.

Yes, my oven only goes up to 250°C. I adjusted the recipe for the dough and use 70% water instead of the usual 60% (baker's math).

Wait, aren’t you supposed to distribute the source of your Linux if you sell devices using it? It’s the GPL, isn’t it?

During the pandemic I learned how to make great Neapolitan style pizza in a normal kitchen oven. To get great pizza you usually need very high heat (~500° / ~930°F) so the pizza cooks very fast and gets cross and soft at the same time.

The mustard seed shortage due to the war in Ukraine also affects at least some of the German brands. Bautz’ner Mittelscharfer Senf - a staple in eastern Germany - is really hard to get.

Currently I find kubectl often don't really respond for CTRL-C and also can't be removed with kill -9 on MacOS.

There are more persons in a lab than only high qualified researchers. Cleaners for example. And one bat might not be much, but if your job is to dispose 20 or 50 of them and you can just go a few hundred meters and sell them to a vendor for

The Wuhan lab used to catch wild bats and take virus samples from them. It’s not too far fetched someone sold the same bats to the market or was infected and infected other people / living animals there.

Yes, state is only modified on the server, not in the dumb clients. Weakening this fundamental idea is what makes it hard to write modern single page applications.
