Not regularly. When I do, it is mostly to classical piano, such as Chopin. It helps me to code by allowing me to go into some sort of trance. Can't explain it. With fast piano music I can visualize data structures easily. Weird, I know. Lik

This reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer is given the job of designing a new car for his brother's auto company. I just wish Yahoo would wake up and realize that they don't have to compete with Google. They can be successful if

The biggest point made here is the following: whatever perception you have about money, you are right. If you think you can't make more than $1k a month, you are right. Same with $10k, $100k, etc. The author stunbled with this by accident.

Quite profound. Companies seem to thrive on sould crunching. My own experience leads me to believe so. But would the inverse also hold true? Is unemployment a fuel to entrepreneurship? The longer you are unemployed or under employed leads t

And that will lead to authors only publishing short books, or even sell individual chapters for $1. Not a good thing.

Great story. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait until my daughter (who is 4) is a bit older. I already have a host of things for us to do. She already owns a WoWee robot, and sees me code every day. I got her a broken laptop so she can sit be

I thought Maddox had "retired". After reading his book, like five hundred years ago, I sort of forgot him. I'm glad he is still the same old in-your-face writer that he is. He does make a good point. Cheap content is a big problem these day

First time I read the post, I found it to be a bit boler-plate. But then I re-read it, while thinking about the person who posted it. You just graduated college. You havent lived that much. Still you had the guts to go out and get what you

Great question. I limit my use of the internet for work. That includes networking with other people on hacker news. I actualy sit outside my home office to get some open WIFI signal in order to connect. This has greatly allowed me to focus.

The mundane television set has changed. No longer is it a thing to watch some movie in it.It is now a gadget that either adds or substracts to your social standing. Just like Apple did with the i-line of gadgets. TV makers are doing it as w

What you have is the usual business marketing problem. How do I find people that need my product? The answer is simple. You can market at large and use big media advertising (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Magazines, Adwords). Or you can contact peo

From personal experience: I've lost a bit more than a hundred (yes, 100) pounds during the last year. My social skills have improved due to an increase in my confidence. But here is the interesting part. People do treat me much better. I ge

You make a very good point. Is someone who is doing a startup in hopes of hitting the startup lottery (when you get bought out) a scam artist?

The private business community made up by the YC members group is what makes the program so amazing. By adding more people to the community, you are not substracting resources, but adding to it. I get your point, and agree. Off topic - Coul

Aside from the lego route, you have another option. Parallax, the basic stmap guys have a robot for beginners. Its already built and the body is covered with a plastic shell. It is programmed using basic. Great people too.
