I find it ridiculous to use an OS that is almost 12 years old but to each their own I guess.

I guess it depends what sort of track you're trying to get promoted in. If you're trying to get a raise and continue to be an individual contributor (i.e. not manage anyone) then I don't think WFH should really be an issue. However, if you

I wonder if the title is in jest. Clicking on this link and then being greeted with a wall of text (literally! It fills my entire screen) is hardly gentle. I'm sure it's a good read just not right now >_>

Plain and simple this article seems like it was written 3-5 years ago. With the recent things Microsoft has been coming out with (Kinect, WP7, WP8, Win8, Surface, New xbox, etc.) that has generated genuine interest...are we really saying th

I agree though I particularly like using the Messaging app snapped to a side while using classic desktop. Know what I mean? Pretty legit.

IIRC there's some genuine awesome improvements for Win8. For example, file copying from a share/network is immensely better. I do this at work all the time.

I think a quick fix that would resolve the "emails from work" scenario would be to include messages from people in your network (assuming your workplace has a FB network). Though if you're in a network for, say, the city you live in (imo si

I think that a big part of this problem is that Apple played along. If I am understanding this correctly, the bigger issue here is that people's phonebooks are getting updated without consent (as opposed to the bigger issue being a differ

I applied to Waterloo in Canada knowing I wouldn't get in but figured it couldn't hurt. As such when I got the rejection letter it didn't ruin my day at all, I really wasn't surprised. What did surprise me was the way it was phrased. It was

I imagine part of it might be to just get more excitement about Windows 8 both in the consumer and developer community. Perhaps they thought that it might make more developers begin to make apps for Win8? Anyone who was thinking about it sh

I'm not really sure what this post is trying to say. Is it trying to criticize Microsoft? It doesn't really feel like it. Is it just a "this is a very important time for MS" post? I think that's obvious. It IS a very important time for MS a

Something like 300 million PCs are predicted to be sold in 2013 I think? Most of these will have this new hardware. Just like someone above mentioned, Microsoft needs to jump first. Windows 8 is more extreme, but a similar example is that t

I think the power of windows 8 comes from the new form factors that will become common place. Imagine having a laptop where the screen detaches and becomes a tablet. Imagine carrying that around with you to do "tablet-y" things. You'll obvi

Exactly. I don't understand what everyone is moaning about. How often do people sit on their computers, open the start menu and just stay there? Never. That means you don't have to do so in Windows 8 with the start screen either. Except the

Your Office point kind of loses traction since I'd say the Office 2007 was a bigger change from Office 2003 than Windows 8 is to Windows 7. Honestly Windows 8 doesn't change how people use computers that much. Most people use the start menu

Out of curiosity, what was your rationale for choosing Google Drive over SkyDrive? SkyDrive: * gives you 7GB vs Google's 5. (and 25gb if you ever used it before the client got released) * has a sick feature where, from skydrive.com, you can

Oh, I agree. I don't think working here is like working at a startup (in some good ways and some bad ways). I just thought that it was unfair to say that only startups are allowed to have "intimacy".

I beg to differ. This is the thing that people misunderstand about Microsoft. When you work at Microsoft you don't just "work at Microsoft". You work for a TEAM in Microsoft. For example, last year I was an intern on Word. The Word client t
