Academics write the paper for free, academics review the paper for free. I've published quite a bit and never had worthwhile input from a non-academic editor. A journal's only real cost would be in hosting costs, which I'm su

Agreed, what a weird statement by the article's author. My kids love reading books. They don't read on screens much, it has to be a book.

IANAL, but I believe that in Australia, you would be entitled to a refund. There is no fixed time limit on refunds, and it would be reasonable to suggest that a game like this should just keep working. You'd probably have to argue yo

A "use it or lose it" clause would be great for patent law. While I appreciate how hard it would be to implement properly, I don't think that should be an impediment to getting the process started.

Yeah, this is a common fallacy, I'm sure there would be a name for it. Basically "my strategy will work, assuming my opponent doesn't act at all", and ignores the fact the opponent is a capable, well resourced entity. Ma

Is that the stance? I haven't heard anything on that front. I'm sure there is a great market opportunity for some developers to do the migrations, or to alternative do backporting for some large companies not interested in mingrat

Any major library that hasn't moved to Python 3 by now isn't going to on their own accord. Either that means they won't, or that the sunsetting will kick them into gear (or get their users to kick them into gear). It should b

After a couple of cancellations of shows I was liking, I'm not generally that enthused about starting a new show. Especially given the trend of not resolving anything at the end of the first season, where you get no payoff at all. I do

Part of the "original" appeal of Netfix was that it was a one-stop-shop, and that effectively killed piracy for a large number of people. The legal solution was easier than the illegal one! Segregation will just revert many back t

True, but there are a large number of people for whom just running "make" at the command line is too much of a hassle. This is normally the market, not other technical people.

Note that the top level summary shows it is 10x faster than Spacey, which is a more impressive achievement than being 10x faster than NLTK (it is 20x faster). NLTK is designed for learning, not for production systems, speed or efficiency. T

This book is quite good. I was recently looking for a more production-ready kalman filters, but the ones I found tend to be either abandoned, lacking lots of features, or not mature code bases. Are there any robust libraries for Kalman filt
