My static file HTTP server called "filed" [0] will satisfy a request in as few as 1 system call (no memcpy involved -- the kernel reads the file and sends the buffer to the NIC), by using sendfile(2). Most other webservers do a b

AppFS [0] solves this by getting rid of the install step, which prevents many problems. [0] https://AppFS.net/ Disclaimers: I work for AWS, but not on the AWS CLI; AppFS is my own personal project

We were a relatively small cloud provider, but all disks were encrypted so at least we wouldn't leak someone's data if we had to replace a disk.

It was all made out of parts with standardized interfaces, so components could be consumer equipment. I also used the same software on my laptop to encrypt it. It's nothing fancy, just using the dm-crypt kernel module and any kind of

When I ran a cloud provider, we used a hardware security module on storage systems which had public/private key pair which could be used to decrypt the header on the disk which contained a copy of the symmetric cipher key. Each header

As an alternative, one can also use User Mode Linux (UML) to implement a pretty fancy chroot (and fakeroot). It can do a few things userns can't, like load kernel modules. I've had to use this to deal with bugs in BtrFS before.

The question I have is that if Microsoft really thinks #1 is true and the way, why didn't they train Copilot on Microsoft's code (in addition to other people's code on GitHub.com) ?

I've attempted to convince maintainers in the past to not do user-hostile things [0]. They seem to think they are entitled to a record of how I use their software on my own systems. It's not clear to me why they would think this,

This is done by some cloud software (e.g., OpenNebula). The downside is that modifying the metadata is now difficult since block devices being hot-plugged can cause issues if in use.

OpenNebula solves this by attaching an ISO image with credentials and metadata to the CD-ROM virtual device, so only root can get the credentials to make calls and also the metadata is there.

I've been thinking about a good way to explain this for a couple of days I think the best way is convert the ASN.1 to some psuedo-typed-JSON. For an X.509v3 public key, the ASN.1 would look like this in JSON-with-types: [
