Would you rather have: A complete game that people love, and is growing like mad, except for that damned skip at 60fps... or A very smooth 60fps game nobody plays.

The author seems to be more interested in obsessive technical improvements than shipping a game many people want to play. One slow frame out of sixty prompts a rewrite? Product doomed. Wait until someone complains to fix anything. Somethi

I don't get it - why are people so interested in Backbone.js? It seems to impose the same kind of baggage in interfaces/front-ends that operating systems impose. Lots of configuration, tons of conventions to learn, lots of little files...

Don't write MapReduce. Check out my tutorials of late on http://datasyndrome.com and check out Apache Pig. That you can understand easily. It will MapReduce for you. Try Amazon Elastic MapReduce wih Pig on some logs.

I've operated this way in practice, at scale, and it works fine. You're rebuilding your entire store and swapping it out frequently, so data consistency isn't a problem. The key is to have a painless pipeline setup, so that one person can

HBase integration is good. But having to deal with column families, etc. rule it out for me in terms of solving the usability problem. I just want to push records and retrieve them as JSON. This is the most common use case when publishin

I don't have anything against Cassandra. I will take a look at your link, and see how easy it is to integrate with Pig. I would be pretty excited to have another painless option available. The fact that Cassandra works with Whirr is very

Maybe all us angry nerds should OCCUPY something. Something big, related to SOPA. It would be cool to see EFF type concerns channeled into that movement.

Hey, whatever you think about Mongo... it can probably work well as a read-only key/value store. Which is all that is needed to publish data from Hadoop, because you've already batch processed it into presentation form.

Hacker News lacks a feature that would 'close entire thread,' and so the top troll comment is disproportionately rewarded with attention. You could fix this with a simple feature.

I am working on implementing this example in Python. There is a problem, however - python-snappy doesn't currently build on OS X. So I can't build the Python Avro bindings :(

Very good to see an example of working with the common crawl. I would encourage YC applicants to think about what kind of opportunities it presents.

Didn't know that was Trevor, but I do have hard data on this. I took the time to collect it for the Atlanta security cluster. Most Y Combinator founders are young, so sample bias is likely present. Then again, Atlanta sucks, so only old f
