I'm shocked (but not totally surprised) at the response to the concept on HN. I cannot even imagine how one could think this is a good thing - necessary, I can understand, but not a good thing. I don't even know how to argue that

Yeah, I really want this to happen. I follow really interesting people for their thoughts about one topic (say, Movies), but whose tweets about topics like politics I really dislike (not necessarily things I disagree with, usually I just di

The madlad did it. Almost 10 years and 10 revolutions later, the podcast is over. If you haven't, now is a good time to binge it.

I agree, up to a point. I feel that companies up to a few billion dollars in stable revenues in a non data intensive business don't need teams of Data Scientists, but would benefit from some people having Data Science skills (both Data

If you bought BTC before centralized actors became dominant, you didn't lose money. If you bought BTC after, you should have known that could happen.

I'm not optimistic. China learned that the West won't get troops involved directly, and Taiwan doesn't have a land border with a nearby friendly airport you can use to supply them with weapons (check https://twitte

I've seen discussions of extra vacation days for jobs that cannot be WFH. I think that's a fair tradeoff.

Also highly recommended from the same podcast: the episode on the Han Dynasty. Chinese history is such a fascinating and underexplored topic in "the West", most of what's in that episode was new to me.

The check for capitalism should be democracy (through regulation). If money controls policy, then capitalism is working better than democracy. To balance it you either weaken capitalism or strengthen democracy. I think the latter is a bette

I think most of the faults atributed to Capitalism are really Democracy not working properly. For profit prisons wouldn't even be a thing if corporate interests didn't have so much power over elected officials.

There are already US citizens fighting Russia in Ukraine. As long as there's plausible (or honest) deniability, USA and Russia aren't directly engaging in combat.

Can we stop pretending theses things aren't luck? Sure, there's merit involved - but that's a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. There's a million competent people having basically the same drive and capability.
