Not sure if this has been asked, but a philosophical question for Eric: if someone decided to start a padmapper competitor tomorrow, would you be okay with them using your data for free?

My government (the US government) does not currently block or censor any internet website. They may throw their weight around from time to time where some say they shouldn't, but no - there is no direct filtering of internet traffic - nothi

The biggest problem I have with bitcoin is that the fixed bitcoin supply and decreased rate at which coins can be mined rewards hoarding behaviors. If you know that the bitcoins you have in your account today will be worth more in the futur

Not sure about Treehouse, but they're targeting a completely different market than Codecadamy - codecademy is really targeting newcomers to coding, while Code School is more for programming professionals to polish up on new (to them) techno

That's definitely where I see this going. A market like that can make Valve a ton of money, but also help support a new generation of indie film makers.

Not really surprising given the direction that Russa has been heading under Putin. With few exceptions free press is gone in the country. Pervasive Internet censorship is the next logical step in locking down power.

I was really excited to give this a try, but I have to say that the sign up process and the upgrade to premium were both a rather trying experience. First, I ended up with a confusing situation where I had two accounts - not that big a deal

I love seeing posts like these - I have no idea why its getting downvoted off the front page. Far too often the attitude on HN is that raising a big round = success. Building a profitable, long lasting business shouldn't be the exception to

I'd be really interested to hear about how well this model works for them. I know that I, for one, am a paying customer because being able to use it for a month or so for free really got me hooked.

Another title change?? This one, again, seems totally inappropriate - shouldn't "Show HN" posts be exempt from mods changing the title since one would imagine that the creator of what is being shown has a better idea of an appropriate title

If its any consolation, I think you did the right thing. Who knows how long it would have taken them to look into it if it didn't hit the front page of HN?

On one hand, I do see your point - at first glance it seems a bit unfair to ambush them like this. On the other hand, if the OP quietly submits it to Heroku and they fix it, then none of us find out. Posting about a vulnerability that has r

Click on 'current usage' in your account and it takes you to your current invoice, which is accessible via the URL that he mentions. It appears to be only the current months usage / invoice that is vulnerable.

Yeah - its a good policy on CC stuff to at least use the person's name, or if that is not available their nick/username. In this case there were clear instructions by the person on how they should be attributed, but they were still ignored.
