It's not like misdirection is not possible without anonymity. In fact, anonymous misdirection is less effective because the source is more questionable. Misdirection from an authorative source is the really dangerous stuff (WMD's in Iraq?).

I think hypocrisy means stating a certain position while acting out different position. The need for stating a position comes from social or political correctness (or misdirection in which case it doesn't work) which are unnecessary with an

I find that Reddit is great because of anonimity. People can talk about problems they can't talk about to anyone. People share experiences they would never dare to share. You get to realize some things are extremely common yet never discuss

I'm not from the U.S., can somebody explain to me why litigation is so common there? Are there laws that somehow lower personal responsibility in general?

It should be noted that government is expected to get relatively more and more expensive because it's most of it's duties are of the service type. Services like schools, public transport, health care generally defy automation but costs stil

It's interesting to think what will happen to us when we've automated the production of everything we really need. I think the reality is we don't need to work so much anymore. In fact we need to work less and less. Especially if you comb

I have an idea for neural networks that is different from everything else out there. I've been thinking about it for years. Finally going to start on it in September. Expect the rise of robot legions next January.

No, and so far from what I see monads seem to be a way to make your functional code imperative again.

Since when does HN need mathematical rigor for hypotheses? I have never seen this standard applied to blog posts about how to be a leader, pitching your ideas, how to program, etc. All of which usually don't come with the statistical proof

Yes, my alarm was triggered when he said the camera was of his own design, I could not fathom a single person producing extremely high tech imaging systems. But the writer pulled it off really well and I figured the guy maybe had the thing

I think if we encountered aliens, they will not be "biological" but mechanical and electronic. These have by far the more superior characteristics needed for space travel. The same holds for us, we are sending robots already and it will onl

On the matter of proving nonexistence, this is possible. The problem lies with the definition of a god. Whenever you try to proof anything, you assume the world is causal/deterministic. An omnipotent influence is therefore also deterministi

I would simply use autohotkey: ^{Right}::Send ^{Tab} ^{Left}::Send ^+{Tab} But then, that changes behavior for all applications, not just Firefox. There is a keyconfig extension for Firefox: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig

Did you feel somehow attacked? The post gives the appropriate disclaimer upfront. And generalization is necessary to make any kind of point. It's not about promoting, it's about honest observations. Which is what makes this interesting. I t

Justice comes from the need for social morality. Law books are only a means to express this morality. If society thinks something should or should not be done, or a punishment is too harsh or too light, then the law should be changed. Since

This can also be theoretically proven: If we view a coin flip as a random variable X that describes the number of revolutions, then X has a value of 0 to infinity. Before the coin is flipped, lets say H faces up. Then as X marks the number
