As a black NYC resident I'm actually surprised by this. Stop and frisk is a major violation of the rights of those stopped without cause but I have generally viewed it as more of a class issue than a race issue. I have never been stopp

Actually the stop & frisk policy the author is writing about is legal in NYC & ex-Mayor Bloomberg was a big proponent, going as far as saying New York police stop whites too often and nonwhites not often enough[0]. 0. http:/&#

We see 1 or 2 of these "Hacker News for X" sites a month. Have any of you succeeded and developed a community beyond the spike of interest you received making the HN frontpage?

It would be even better if this was about more than gender. I am not one of the gender inequity deniers in this industry and I don't see anything wrong with valuing a better gender balance in the industry, in fact I think it's a g

There's a major bias to guessing in the 70-90k range. People likely to earn far less or far more than that are being pushed toward the middle.

Agreed, thus far the predictions seem very low to me. With the exception of the occasional non-profit professional profiles, where the predictions are much higher than what my friends who work in the non-profit sector report.

Salary is a weird number. For instance giving a startup founder who is an ex-Google engineer a prediction is awkward because she could maybe fetch a mid six figure salary if she wanted but she is probably is paying herself enough to get by

Thanks for responding to these threads. While the "beautiful & unique snowflake" stuff is a bit much, I appreciate developers standing up for simplicity in design. The architecture astronauts try to take the intellectual high

Unfortunately the parent link is to a second hand source rather than a direct quote. The way Slate frames Page's answer makes it seem lacking in empathy to people alive today who suffer. Maybe it is just Slate's framing, but readi

Actually I disagree in a big way. I think it's a mistake to conflate choices in tooling like HAML/HTML & mySQL/pg with architecture choices. Your architecture choices change the way you write your application code and how
