Would something like Ning.com be the kind of thing you're looking for? Maybe, Posterous would be better, most people "get" email so it wouldn't be a problem for your family to post to and you can set up email subscriptions for the latest po

I'd recommend this Edward Tufte book for visual data design, it's very good: http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Display-Quantitative-Informatio... Also, FlowingData is a great site for data visualization: http://flowingdata.com/

You'd think DHH would run his JS past Sam Stephenson (the creator of Prototype, who works at 37s) before posting it on the company blog.

I immediately clicked on the video because I didn't understand what the concept was. You should make the video larger (I don't want to full screen) and maybe do a commentary soundtrack with it to help get across what you're doing

Very true. I really wish Twitter had an API more similar to Facebook's FQL system. When I request information from Twitter, there's a lot of excess data that I don't need and don't use, causing unnecessary load on the Twitter servers.

From the API docs: "If authentication credentials are provided, the rate limit status for the authenticating user is returned. Otherwise, the rate limit status for the requester's IP address is returned." http://apiwiki.twitter.com/REST+A

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer using "RT" as it's pretty easy to type, it's in popular usage on Twitter (so no need to explain the crazy recycling symbol), plus it's only one extra letter
