You can reduce this a huge amount by simply using it in a tab in a browser. When I'm travelling I use it this way, as it eats much less battery - I just pin a tab.

For a few years the 'captcha' on my site asked, 'What's the capital of Georgia?' I had a couple of irate emails from people entering 'Atlanta' and wondering why it didn't accept their answer.

When I graduated I had already decided that software development was too painful and not rewarding enough - in my experience up to that point. I chose to pursue system admin - networking, scripting, installing, configuring. This was a good

Whatever happened to the custom endorsements? It only seems to allow ones that 'match' your declared skills now.

Just curious: What's different about the processors in the current MBPs vs those in the 2015s in terms of how it affects your work - or whatever else you're using your MBP for?

That's quite a cynical way of explaining this. Is it possible to interpret this as it being allowed to use evidence seized illegally if, on balance, justice would be better served?

Instead of calling this a 'respect' for authority, I'd call it a combination of submissiveness and deferring of all decision making, partly through a desire to avoid accountability. If you look at your situation where somethi

Storage is cheap indeed, though it takes some effort to make it cheap. 99% of the digital data I'm keeping for the long term is family photos and videos. All my photos go to Dropbox (easy copy-from-device and access anywhere) and are t

Correct. I often walk down a road with a 20mph 'limit' where most cars are doing around 40 - and some appear to be doing more like 50. There's simply no economically viable way to enforce it, so it will continue like this unt

I have a couple of t430s models. One is a backup server and I use the other for coding mini projects. It’s fine, but my work laptop is a 15” rMBP and I know which screen, pointing device and battery life I prefer.

If we were to work with an assumption that fusion happens soon (<20 years) and power is now cheap, what would we now be able to achieve that was previously prohibitively difficult / expensive?

I use the remote control for one thing on our TV: volume. That’s just because all the sound goes in there via HDMI then off to an amp with no remote control.

It happened on my 6s after less than a year. Despite what's said about how it was only done 'during intensive operations' or something like that, it was apparent and a major pain all the time, making every operation seem slow

I spent too long being exasperated at the clueless BBC ‘Technology reporting’ before I realised that if it was this wrong about tech (a domain I humbly believe I know fairly well - at least when it comes to hard facts) then how wrong might

Looking at CVs, everyone knows git. Using anything else would require not just licence costs. Also training and potentially reducing the pool of possible hires.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, if they're asking for a phone password, hopefully they're just keying it into their systems for verification against a hash, not manually comparing to a plaintext copy.

I was most of the way through last year's in C# when I decided now was the time to properly learn (algorithmic programming in) Elixir. That set me back in terms of speed, but it was well worth it. I'm now fairly fluent and I'

This is one of the major pains that tore me away from Android (where I had several ‘flagship’ phones and kept them free of crap). If iOS keeps heading this way, what’s left? Back in the 90s I decided we needed a real-time UX - hard real-tim

One reason I moved from Android to Windows phone was because of the massively unpredictable performance (lag due to background stuff happening). One reason I moved from Windows phone was the massive delay in switching apps. Now on iPhone th

I’m not really bothered about speed. Just reliability. If my home broadband could actually stay up then I’d be able to work from home without tethering to a phone in order to get a reliable connection.
