Yes, Notch made something significant (Minecraft) and as far as I can tell is very far from a jerk.

What does that have to do with the word weekend? My question was about "That's partly why they are called weekends after all."

Care to explain? What does the word "weekend" have to do with sleep debt?

Indeed that may be true. But it's still pretty pitiful that they only let you apply your discount to $1000 worth of products a year. That means you save.. $100 each year!

But what happens when some of the apps require different versions of the JVM?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think not using the JVM makes deployments much simpler. At least that was one of the benefits a team at Amazon stated about switching to Go while I was there

I completely understand that there are certain jobs which are going to be inherently dangerous no matter how much people try to advocate for safety. On the other hand, it's unacceptable how safety is just throw to the side for the sake

I'll disagree that these questions require weeks of preparation. I think it's more just unfair because they favor a certain type of person: those whose interests align more strongly with the theory and algorithms and less with bui

The person you're replying to wasn't trying to say you meant to invest on margin but that what you are doing is the same as investing on margin. When you do margin trading you take on debt to allow you to buy more stock. In your c

Is this really burnout? I feel like I've been burned out before but from what the author was saying, this doesn't seem like it. If anything it just seems like he has a lot of other things he wants to do and work prevents him pursu

I agree that the author of this post is a nice position to quit because he has enough money to do so. I think the reason these posts get upvoted is more because the things that the author talked about are things many of us deal with. I'

Maybe it's just the tone of the article, but I found the article to be extremely depressing. More than just the fact that Benzos are potentially being overprescribed, it really sounds like there are an increasing number of people suffe

I thought the whole appeal of App Engine is that you dont get a real server and thus dont have to worry about managing them. It seems like if you prefer a real server you aren't the target market.

Is there ever going to be a perfect language? My impression is that even among "styles" of programming languages, they have benefits and drawbacks. It seems more likely that we will be able to understand the problems programmers a

I largely agree with what you are saying, but doesn't it only apply to languages that will be used in back end systems? If you are just making a phone app or something, it doesn't seem like parallelism is nearly as important.

Actually I think I might if only because your team (and manager!) probably affects your well being much more than what company it is. But I can also see why it seems inconvenient to have many people from the same company post as well.

Well, that's true in the US, but I don't know if that's necessarily true for any job. For example in Japan, companies actually go out of their way to do things for you outside of your work, like find you a significant other.
