All of that seems to only be “medium” secure in face of future quantum computing. “It's been estimated that 6,681 qubits would be required to run use Grover's algorithm to break AES-256 bit encryption.” https://www.ther

No, you shouldn’t count for 50 Californians or whatever. The few hundred thousand people in Wyoming could care less that millions of people in big cities live under the threat of gun violence. That’s highly unfair and a big reason for the d

The only truly safe encryption is quantum encryption. Any classical encryption algorithm should be breakable with quantum computers, even if we haven’t figured it out yet like with Shor’s.

Science seemingly removed meaning from our lives, with many of us reducing ourselves, like Hawking, to “just a chemical scum on a moderate-sized planet”. But what if that’s a bad explanation? I recommend reading David Deutsch’s books. This

If this tech allows BEVs a significantly higher range it would be a game changer. Currently the range is about the same as gasoline cars with a longer refueling time. For your average consumer that’s not an improvement. But if I can go 800

Google uses AI along with the camera to correct the compass. If they could integrate this correction with their standard compass API it would be a game changer. As a side note, the API docs in both Android and iOS fail to mention how unreli

Is that like saying that time & distance have no meaning for a photon?

...so no time passes from the photon’s point of view. Infinite time dilation means that a photon from a galaxy 3 billion light years away arrives here instantaneously from the photon’s perspective. Which means there’s actually no distance

I dunno, HK was legally handed over to China with international approval (albeit with China bending/breaking the 50 year agreement). Messing with Taiwan’s sovereignty would be a far far greater geopolitical problem.

A wise man once said that all of the business contracts in the world don’t matter if the two sides don’t trust each other. So just claiming to stay within the rules & limits is not enough. Good faith goes a long way.

They are called “western” values because their current form began with the Enlightenment and scientific revolution in Europe and have stuck around since then. But yes they’ve popped up temporarily in other past cultures like Ancient Greece.

Western values: freedom of speech, the ability to remove bad leaders, etc. IMO, all of the historical innovations you mention in the Arabian peninsula, China and Japan happened during periods of relative openness in those cultures.

We understand how to play games with defined rules. That’s the point. Do you expect AlphaZero plus human advice to beat unaided AlphaZero? If so, it’s not a step towards AGI.

David Deutsch, father of the quantum computer, says that we can only automate and program something that we understand, and that we do not understand human intelligence or how creativity works. And AGI is not possible until we do.
