That's just the Daily Mail; and it's not "someone, anyone", it's immigrants.

Huge fan of that hiring post, by the way. I'm currently working with a roomful of cognitive scientists on ways to unpick some of the bias from recruitment. Be good to have a chat at some point if you're interested.

Not to be overly inflamattory, but whoever designed that passport (an inherently international object) without taking into account international date format deserves to be fired. Then re-hired. Then fired again.

Not at all, it's a valid bug that's indicitaive of a deeper problem, presenting uncertain and locale-specific conclusions as being certain. Even if you do language and locale-sniffing using n-grams you still have a certainty probl

I wouldn't even call it an incentive, it's more the balancing out of a strong negative incentive that already exists. Considering that Wikileaks exists to make conspiracies harder/smaller I think this totally fits with their

Makes sense. My take is that it's best to make the 'interview' as close to representative of the actual job as possible. It sounds like you're on the money there. I'm always wary of 'culture fit' though, i

As I've commented elsewhere, there are plenty of other studies. Eg. Moss-Racusin et al (2012) which found that female students applying for jobs were seen as less competent than male students with identical application materials.

Not saying your skepticism isn't valid, there's always value in a contrary opinion, but let's be clear, the research points to discrimination being a measurable effect. Studies on this topic support an opinion that descrimina

It is not cool, it is just easy. No effort to understand a problem even less effort to understand is there really a problem... So people who talk on this topic aren't thoughtful? Sure some aren't, but that's the sa

Most companies fail to compensate for confidence bias at the interview stage, which is what I'm guessing has bitten you here. It's not a problem which is going to go away soon, sadly. The way I see it you've got two options:
