I think all of those things you listed are kinds of nudges. They are changes in the "choice architecture" that steer the user to an action. In the context of government, a nudge means influencing people to choose something desirab

Excited to see one of my first programming books there: A Touch of Applesoft BASIC [1]. The book is very limited but it's what I had. I would have been so excited to have all these other books available. What an amazing time we live in

It's probably a good default because it's more consistent with how NULL equality is handled in SQL generally. From the article: > In Postgres 14 and prior, unique constraints treated NULL values as not equal to other NULL value

This is just my take, but Cloudflare looks to be building a "moat" to make entry hard. This is built around two things: 1. economies of scale, 2. a network effect. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economies_of_

About 90% of the treatment I had was in the year or two after my local dentist was bought by a large, publicly listed dentist corp. (This is in New Zealand.) I've switched back to another local dentist and no treatment needed in the de

While we're talking about privacy and CDN delivery, check out Decentraleyes. It's a browser extension which keeps a local cache of common CDN-delivered files. https://decentraleyes.org/ I wondered if it supports f

It needs to be at the end of the calling function so you can throw the calling function's stack frame away, since it's still in use. Getting rid of the calling stack frame is what proper tail calls is about.

One way to look at it is they let you do "low level functional programming", where you can write code that jumps around without using stack space. If you think about all the standard statements in a language - if, while, async, et

I agree, syntactic tail calls seems like a great compromise if automatic tail calls are too risky. I'd love to have them in the language. Here are some strawman syntax examples from the Syntactic Tail Calls proposal. Return Continue

My Chromecast automatically turns my TV on and to the Chromecast input whenever I cast to it. This is when it's plugged into the HDMI ARC port on a Samsung TV, which I think is a CEC port as well. https://support.google.com&

Crazy! This reinforces the idea of not agreeing to the Terms of Service when prompted. I've found you can easily avoid doing that on a Samsung.

Also, don't agree to the Terms of Service when prompted. This should in theory give extra protection against ads, etc. There's no nagging on a Samsung when you do this and use a Chromecast.

Kotlin coroutines are amazing. They're built on very clever tech that converts fairly normal source code into a state machine when compiled. This has huge benefits and allows the programmer to break their code up without the hassle of
