There's definitely inherent bias in much of the interviewing process, whether deliberate or not, for many tech startups. But there's also a high degree of bias once inside them. Older engineers with families often can't reall

The last point is key, and overlooked by young insecure startup hirers too often. Hire smart people with good work ethics that play nice with others. Having built technical teams numbering in the dozens this is literally the ONLY strategy t

So, a few years back, as a non-technical founder I lost my technical co-founder in back-to-back startups. This was not a great experience, and made me decide to never be dependent on someone else for getting initial product out the door. I

yeah the selective hackathon is a relatively new thing and kinda stupid - like hackathon organizers have some magic formula for picking winners... dumb idea

I think a key part of the question though is the fact that it didn't used to be just entry level devs and college students at hackathons.

You aren't wrong. I've been going to hackathons for many years and there's been a steady increase in folks who are going "to win" rather than folks going for the fun, the energy, the comradeship. Meeting other smart

I don't think you're correct here. The stresses of being an entrepreneur take a tremendous toll and given the risk-taking nature of the condition (entrepreneurialism) I absolutely see those stresses lead to dangerous and addictive

Thanks for at least having the decency to give people notice and a chance to download everything. I still remember the shameful way in which Dailybooth handled its loss of interest in the space by leaving everyone hanging...

Wow that was a lame attempt at humor. Not remotely funny. Not realistic enough to be satire. Why even bother?

Exactly right. It's great to see a company which is growing fast, generating real revenue and quietly establishing itself as one of the most exciting startups in the valley, giving back like this. Note to founders - this is the kind of

The domain name industry is a dirty scummy dishonest business. There isn't a company one can deal with that at some point won't make you feel like you're forced to work with crooks just to get an online presence.
