I think there's certainly some truth to coding interviews being an effective mechanism in shifting hiring towards H1Bs. It's much easier to say that Americans can't do the job when you create a test around studying for 500 ho

Meth isn’t a life destroying poison because you’re addicted to it? Is that really the argument?

Yes...that’s how the government works. I’d recommend taking a civics course. We thankfully don’t (yet) live in a country where New York, LA, and Chicago control everything.

My regular glasses don’t block out an additional 30% or more of my vision. I can see fine peripherally, it’s just a bit blurry.

That would be quite nice, but I’m not sure I’d trust the government to not store and then lose all the secret keys near instantly. If they can overcome that, sign me up.

Anecdotally having used both a window unit and a dual hose unit with technically the same BTU (using the new adjusted measurements), the window unit is still night and day better. Not having massive heat radiating tubes and a large electric

Does anyone know what it would cost to charter a flight like that? Is it relatively reasonable if you split it amongst 10 people, or are we still talking 10/15K per head?

While I understand this was most likely posted in a fit of brief anger, the non-coastal areas are not a desolate wasteland.

If your small company needs H1bs to survive, it doesn’t sound like a very sound business in the first place.

This sounds incredibly racist. All the best Indian engineers went to Silicon Valley?

And what are these niche industries?

No....uh....”liquidity”.

An absolutely amazing claim. $28,000 is cheap for "millions of Americans". What's a moderately priced car to you? 50K?

by rhexs 6y ago
What price does that start at?

Sure, it’s a rough situation. He lived beyond his means and sank due to the black swan. Now, if the story was about repossessing the truck he needed to drive to a food pantry, I’d have a bit more sympathy. The loan company should be barred

Guy has what looks like a luxury truck and is apparently having trouble deciding between food and his car payment. Sell the car, get a cheap used beater, reduce expenses, keep looking for a job. Not sure what NPR wants me to take from this

I use AdGuard, mostly because it’s free and the desktop version has a decent reputation. Works well.

Just to be clear, America absolutely does support parents financially to an enormous degree. Hint: it’s not the middle class we’re supporting.

Not sure why this is downvoted. I’m guessing most pizza delivery drivers are basically judgement proof. Just don’t drink and drive.

I've been using O&O's shutup10 ( https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 ) as the first step after a fresh install for years. Anything better, or is this still a good solution?

You can usually always find a great deal on a popular car by finding a bulk/invoice dealer in a very large city. If you're willing to drive 8 hours, there's always some massive dealership that sells at invoice or a few hundre

I'm hoping Doctors aren't being hosed down with concentrated gallons of trillions and trillions of virus. PPEs aren't going to do much in that situation.

Speaking of older games, are there any (other) active communities these days that still play competitive capture-the-flag style games? CTF seemingly died years and years ago and most games these days are sort of regressing to various spins
