From the point of view of someone writing an IMAP client, Gmail's IMAP implementation is not awesome. It's not horrible either, but it does have quite a few quirks, some of which can be a real pain to deal with.

I've used localtunnel quite a bit for quickly sharing a local dev server with a coworker and other things of that nature, but I noticed that after leaving a tunnel open for a while I would see requests from unfamiliar IP addresses. It turns

The example I gave in the blog post was a real-world example: a link to a user's profile page that includes the username in the URL. This is extremely common. Naturally, only a fool would allow usernames to contain unsafe characters, but th

My understanding (and I tested to confirm) is that IE only treats ` as an attribute delimiter when it's assigned to an element's innerHTML value dynamically. So this is important when working with client-side code, but not so much when gene

I debated whether or not to mention this, and in the end decided I didn't want an in-depth discussion of edge cases to overwhelm the basic message I was trying to get across, which is that context is key. As far as I know, ` is only an issu

I moved from Portland to the Bay Area to take a job at Yahoo! four years ago. After a year and a half, I moved back, and have been telecommuting ever since. A coworker recently moved back to Portland and began telecommuting as well. Remote

I bought a 256GB Crucial RealSSD C300 and put it in my MacBook Pro. It failed catastrophically within about a month. Luckily I do an automated full-disk backup to an external drive every night; between that and CrashPlan, I didn't lose any

It's pretty easy to make any company look terrible when you selectively list mostly bad things about its history interspersed with good things about its competitors.

I used Greenfax until I actually saw the faxes that were coming out the other end. They were unreadable garbage. I switched to http://faxzero.com/ and have been very happy with the quality of their faxes.

That's not the case. Internally, this intent was communicated shortly after the original announcement that leaked. It was just communicated to a smaller group of people, so it apparently didn't leak like the first announcement did.

Looks wonderful, and in tests on small repos it seems to work well, but I can't get it to open the moderately-sized YUI 3 repository (10,000 commits or so) that I spend most of my time in. It just sits and spins forever. Brotherbard's gitx

What version of YUI did you use? What kinds of websites did you use it for (and what do you use jQuery for now)? I find YUI 3's Node and NodeList interfaces, which allow you to manipulate and traverse the DOM using selectors, to be just as

Actually, the reason is that the browser uncompresses components before caching them, so compression has no effect on cacheability. The generated data are actually a series of newline-delimited MD5 hashes of pseudorandom numbers, which make
