I've only given Helix a brief try, but I think there are some things to be excited about it as a keyboard-focused editor: Its out-of-the-box experience seems much nicer than vim (or even kakoune). Helix takes a lot of inspiration from

The quickest, most practical taste for Nix would be: https://nix.dev/ I'd start with trying to use Nix before going with NixOS or home-manager.

The size of the spacebar on a standard keyboard takes up the space of 6 keys; but people will push the spacebar in the same place. It's nicer for the thumb to be able to access more keys, and nicer to not need to rely on the pinky fing

The thumb is strong, and the pinky finger is weak. It would be better to use the thumb more, and not rely on the pinky finger as much. Compared to a standard keyboard, these small keyboards typically have more keys for the thumb to access.

The claim I'd make in favour of Dvorak is that it's much more comfortable than QWERTY, without an impactful drop in speed. (Though, after using Dvorak for long enough, it's about as fast as QWERTY for me). I have a video on Y
