There's no way the run-up in housing prices is all land. In 1960 the average house price was 11,700... about 115,000 in 2022 dollars. I'm 51 and have built several houses. Since I was 22 and started being interested in real estate

Homes today are cheaper than the 60s? The 60s where a single earner family, where the earner was a schoolteacher, could afford a house before having kids?

I have used this exact phrase multiple times, but your parent's "rant full of strawmen" did make me reflect on it. - How is "lived experience" different than "experience"? - How can an experience be "

The payout is often in a mix of cash and stock, and the stock will vest. Sometimes there are holdbacks for performance. That can result in not-too-much cash being available upfront, and it'll all go to preferred shareholders leaving li

It's not just slip-and-fall. Northern Alberta SAGD sites have 20km/h speed limits on premise - if you're a contractor you WILL be fired individually for going over (yes, they measure), and if you're a contracting firm tw

So many people here saying throwing out a price obligates you to sell at that price. Deals fall apart all the time after a price has been settled on.

The difference is that Maslow did propose a hierarchy, and the original article is about how he never proposed a pyramid. So maybe it's dumb semantics, but I didn't start the fire.

"Past me" is firmly in the camp of other people. (Not just in code, obviously, but in pretty much all other choices as well.) Present me and future me, however, are certainly not other people.

Probably due to a pattern of Very Confident Statements from people who know a little bit about the subject. There may be things you are expert in that are similar.

Huh, I just pulled my undergrad psychology notes and I don't think I've ever heard or used "Maslow's pyramid". It's always been Maslow's Hierarchy to me.

The essence, perhaps... with none of the nuance or shading. If one thinks that is unnecessary, dispensable fluff, Twitter is no doubt sufficient for most writing. And a rhyming dictionary contains all poetry in many fewer pages.

There are plenty of engineers from successful startups —- maybe the majority of them — who were lucky to get a new Honda Fit out of a very lucrative (for some) exit.

Perhaps I was too harsh, and you are not a native English speaker? "Seize" simply means to take control. The second definition in Miriam Webster is "to take control by legal means". Police seize drugs, for example.

You ask a question, then immediately assume the answer and draw conclusions based on that answer. I dispute that this is just something you like to think about ("Just asking questions here...") or that you are not pushing an agend
