Meanwhile I'm of the opinion that Google started it's slide downhill during Larry Page's time as CEO. Somewhat ironically, I think Google's brightest days had Eric Schmidt (MBA, "adult in the room") as CEO. Thi

Who's this warning for? Do we have any budding monopolists in the HN crowd who need the warning?

You (as a US citizen or company) would acquire one from a US vendor. Exporting outside the US was illegal, using it within the US was not.

Video transcoding: Taking the raw uploaded video and re-encoding it so it is appropriate for being sent to video players over the web. Typically this takes the form of creating "renditions" of the source video at lower resolutions

This exactly, although it's exceedingly rare to do it on demand. Typically you do it when the video is first uploaded. That, and it's usually HLS ABR, more about that on my parent comment.

Cloudflare's enterprise offerings are bizarre. We went through the process to get it priced out and it made no sense for us. I could see how some of the features would be worth it for some businesses, but not for us.

R2 is an insane value proposition. We calculated the cost of moving HLS video delivery to it and unless you are delivering a huge amount of traffic, the costs are far lower. Highly recommend you consider it, assuming you are willing/ab

Though a website in the browser can be offline, maybe the simplest call to action would be "Use MySite offline by adding it to your home screen"

Pretty fair, especially since there's already tons of ways (albeit far less convenient) to accomplish nonmalicious escalation. Great work making this happen!

I dunno, looks like a rounded rectangle to me [1] Besides, if Apple was allowed to patent rounded rectangles more , they absolutely would. [1] https://www.theverge.com/2012/11/7/3614506/apple-patents-rec

Good point! Would we call them browsers? Well, no, but they do speak HTTP and are bound to get picked up in the data. I suppose that would be the remaining 0.03% though, since the 1.27% is accounted for, if we trust the upstream browser usa

It's just the flagging you already have access to (as you have more than 30 karma). It's the flag option. There's nothing special otherwise that I'm aware of (at least at 2500 karma)

The magnitude of our recommendations differ quite a lot. The phone is the most important thing in your life. Changing it is very expensive, both in money and in your own time. Changing which app you use is, in most cases, a far less costly

Fair, but I think there's a middle ground here, obviously an entire screen of buttons on top of a video occludes the content that you want to watch. Even if our visual cortex can handle it, I don't think its desirable if it can be
