It doesn't surprise me at all. Being in tech usually means starting earlier than medicine, finance or law and if you're poor you likely had less opportunities to own or use computers. Access might be provided through school or lib

I was "lucky" in that my parents were so terrible with money that every year around tax time assuming we weren't homeless they'd head into Rent-A-Center and rent a computer for the house. If it weren't for that I ne

I'd like that survey. The lower class is completely unrepresented in tech. It's been one of the weirdest and hardest things for me to handle personally.

I have eaten most of those but I was tempted to pretend I haven't. My point was a major simplification of how American assimilation happens or I think ideally it should happen. Cultural heritage is important and mixing cultures togethe

The issue I take with this is that American assimilation is a two way street. Every culture puts in and takes out. Tacos, sausages, pizza, sushi, these are American foods as much as they are Mexican, German, Japanese, or Italian. Some of th

Google says there are currently 2.9 billion internet users, if 1% of them pay you 1 dollar you'd gross 29.1 million dollars, 0.1%, moving the decimals even at just 0.001% could gross you a cool 29 grand. That's really not a bad de

Healthy food is more expensive both in time required for prep and materials. That is why affluent people seemingly buy healthier food. When you grow up poor, or live poor you don't have as much time or mental energy to properly diet.

This guy did work though, he did some parts out of your preferred order but by and large he did all of the required effort. It wasn't dumb luck or short cuts, it was smartly planned strategy. It was Agile if you want to get cute with i

Is there any job at any company in any industry where "putting in your 8 hours" pushes you to the top? There are anecdotes about amazing contractors who can work 8 hours a week showing up pointing out problems and offering smart s

My experience with Java has been frustrating, I think it has a lot to do with what you need to know to get started. If you want to play with a language, check out how to build a quick API, you need to know a lot more than Ruby, Python or No

"We have an industry that has a history of stinginess and that does not have a good history of giving back." That doesn't match anything I've heard or read, from what I can tell tech entrepreneurs constantly give back, o

It's often the only or best way too. The more secure a place is the easier it is to get in. People become very trusting. Carry a clipbord and look like you know where you're going and you can walk damn near anywhere.
