Agreed. Shazam has failed for me too often where Soundhound has returned the result, that the only reason I use Shazam anymore is out of curiosity after Soundhound, to see if it can also find the track.

I obviously know nothing about this sort of engineering, because to me this looks like a teeny weeny bridge, taking ~50 cars a day - it breaking is barely more newsworthy to me than dropping my coffee. Is this a sort of "not just in I

Are you asking how you can get your kids interested in something they're not interested in, because you are? I'm often surprised at the industry's determination to be so enthusiastic about programming. I enjoy it, and have

I agree. I dread to think who they'll send. The musician will be a popular twerker rather than someone musical, and so on. It's a cute idea, but I expect the result will be cheesy fluff. We'll see.

Anjem Choudary is currently in the news. With the likes of him and his supporters I'm not sure I expect much else. I'd prefer it wasn't done, but even with that we still have bombs and vehicle rampages. What are the altern

I think the collection is not open to the public, rather for scientists/researchers. I'm there every other weekend and have never seen it highlighted/advertised for visiting.

Ah, nice, I used to work there, in the royal mint. /wave Enjoyed watching yachts prepare for races; now I watch insurance people.

Yeah, I work in Gherkin area of London, many insurance companies there. The actuarial types I overhear at the coffee-shops are earning around 3x my software dev salary.

Well that was part of what I was referring to with chaos engineering. But I think your "declared hostile power" is part of the hysteria I was referring to.

Ebb and flow. I'm elsewhere in the world, but I imagine whoever is next in the position will fix what Trump got wrong, and there will be some things which prove to be better, even if by luck. I think of it as a bit of tree shaking, p

I think it hits a sweet spot. Not as boring as Go, not as obstinate and distracting as Rust ("I'm sorry, Dave"), not purely functional for those who don't want to go all the way in that direction. I expect people who t

There's also an ocaml toplevel for android, not the easiest to use, I keep an eye out for it arriving on termux.

I don't see why these two are being lumped together. I see ReasonML needs OCaml, but not that OCaml needs ReasonML. OCaml I expect will become increasingly mainstream - I've started using it instead of rust on personal projects.

Sounds like you're complaining that countries teach the history of their country. I would fully expect eg Britain to primarily teach the history that led up to current Britain, with side dishes of elsewhere's history. I would si

Go is the wrong tool for that. I'm no fan of bash, but it's often the the quick, clear (enough) solution for small tasks. I'm not a python dev - maybe that would be a suitable compromise?

I'd love somewhere like Australia to take on a big terraforming experiment. Even "just" digging a channel from the coast to the middle of the desert. Fish, crabs find their way in, birds start feeding along the channel, fer
