There's an important (but not always obvious) difference here: individually, you're strictly safer with a helmet, but when you start forcing people to wear helmets, the disadvantages outweigh the benefits. That's why lots of

This is more about responsiveness. It's not just about slow script, if you open a very large text file in a tab, the entire Firefox UI stalls. If you have some moderately heavy operation happening in a different tab, scrolling gets cho

Once you have a multi-process setup in place, running in a single process is relatively simple, IPC just routes messages internally instead of across processes. Having a single-process setup and going to a multi-process one is a way, way,

The article explains it. Moving things off the UI thread (and other responsiveness related fixes) is what has been done so far as part of Snappy. This project is about putting web content in a different process than the Firefox UI.

While reading this I realized most of the times when I've been complimented for my smell, I was far from being perfumed – getting home after a busy day, arriving somewhere after having to run to catch a bus, things like that.

FxOS runs at 50+ FPS for pretty much all of the built-in UI, even on lower end phones like the Geeksphone Keon. Higher end phones are actually really fast, like the LG Fireweb (released in Brazil a couple weeks ago) and the GP Peak.

While the reasons stated by the gp might not be the best ones to justify his assertion, browsers are an environment for running arbitrary untrusted code, and have a lot of similarities with operating systems (like job control, memory manage

That's a very conflicting message. You don't want "bloated code", but you use Firefox for its extensions. You think browsers should focus on 4 things, but one of the main factors keeping you away from Chrome is not in th

Note that this is still not even close to the pixel density on the Thinkpad you described. The 32" Dell monitor has 140DPI, 2880x1620 has 220DPI, which is a huge difference (compare today's high resolution desktop displays with a

I, and all OS X users I know, use the thumb to press command. I rarely need to use home/end, since control-A and control-E work in all text fields. PgUp and PgDn are fn+up/fn+down, but I never use those.

That's why I love Mercurial. The API is great, people build great things with it, and it has a policy of "default to sane, simple and working; let users tweak stuff easily".
