I live in Nelson BC where the powder skiing is legendary. You can get a very nice 3 bedroom house for USD$ 350k. Granted it's a small town but for the right people it's an incredible place with a small srtarrup scene.

That is true. But there are also a number of perks such as universal health care. So maybe just a certain type of developer would move - one motivated by values rather than money. Perhaps similar to the draft dodgers who came up in the late

I wonder how this might affect startups in Canada? Will it be easier to hire American programmers? Will more investors come up north?

Trump is entertaining to watch. Even though I find him a buffoon I still find him fun to watch. Hillary has more experience, matches my views on policy but she is a bore to watch, I can't bear it. (I'm Canadian, and our immigratio

The thrust of the essay is that people don't vote by issues but by charisma - and Sanders has more charisma than Hillary. And he is also an anti-establishment candidate.

Trump runs as the anti-establishment candidate and with his charisma does a good job selling it. His candidacy reminds me of the movie Idiocracy.

I really like this approach and I reading about it here makes me inspired to try it on our next hire. We do pair programming, so it would work well for us. What I've been doing which is similar is hiring the dev on contract for a short

I agree, not sure why this was flagged. The title is clickbait, but it seems this guy genuinely does hate hackerrank. fair enough.

We discover people's technical skills with a take-home question. We took a real business problem that we already solved and get them to solve it. They don't write any code, but just give an explanation as to how they would go abou

I wanted to use and like hackerrank as a hiring tool but found the questions had nothing to do with what devs do every day - mainly solving business problems in elegant ways. I even contacted them and told them so but did not get much resp

We are a PHP shop. Recently we needed to do some machine learning work so we took up Python and scikit-learn. I would have much preferred to use this library. I'm very excited to see this and hope to help contribute some day.

New to NLP we tried NLTK first for a toy project and it was very slow and inaccurate. Luckily we found spaCy, switched to it and sped things up 10x with better accuracy and it was easier to use. Based on this experience I tend to agree with

Our startup Retreat Guru is using Balanced and we were impressed by their vision and support. Sorry to see them go but looking forward to working with Stripe. I wish them all well in their future ventures.
