I think it is sad, it comes from your own employer (I understand you work for Google, correctly if I am wrong).

I have to ask this, do you see yourself as the norm at Google throughout your whole employment time there? In my experience as both interviewee and interviewer, there is a lot of power struggles involved. Just like any other interaction be

Someone above him might have decided that’s part of the process. I am starting to think that most of those decisions are made by burocrats who have no accountability on the actual results, specially at Google where they can afford to lose g

Me neither. Quite common deal breaker I seen is mismatch of expectations (e.g.: candidates applying for senior positions with experience to lead bigger projects, etc) but never seen gross incompetence like that (so that I am not even sure i

I interviewed with Google NYC for Senior Dev position once, prepared well and thought it went well. Received the green light and moved to the next phase, where I spoke with potential teams over the phone, then settled with Google Maps. Met

No problem. I sort of understand their view but the lack of medication or proper diagnose can also be linked to accidents, we just don’t have any data either way.

Regarding about mental illness entry. I have ADHD and it is flagged in the system. How do I know? When I tried to exchange my driver license, it was flagged and the “local DMV” forwarded the application to the police department. I then had

Hear ya. Same here, loved computers and to build stuff. For long time, I thought meritocracy was there for us, (maybe because we tend to be more rational?) And it sort of worked this way the first years but once I got up to political levels

You might come out as “mercenary” or “not passionate” guy for the companies but I think your pragmatism has helped the industry as whole to some extend.

True, I am big fan of them but there are some legitimate cases where a debugger is so practical. There is a lot of code out there that has very little logical sense per se other than elusive business requirements..

Hehe, I’d sadly say no, chances are we don’t have the same employer but the general tech in Europe is still old IT / cost center. I am not in a stage of life for pursuing promotions to give more anedata on that, but I can see that a lo

My anedata for EU is that varies a lot between States. In Germany, I had salary negotiation closer to what I was used to in the US (e.g.: two competing offers, etc). In Denmark, very little room to maneuver. I had no luck negotiating salari

It is not just American companies but big companies treat different labor markets differently. For example, I used to work for a big company in Denmark that has a sattelite office in Bucharest. It is questionable to see that even the equipm

And as result of title inflation, a lot of titles are losing meaning even in big companies. I know people becoming principal eng at FAANG who are just playing their cards right.

I think it is also how budget for hiring seems to be allocated. New funding round, hire a bunch, got budget approved, hire a bunch. Senior management and above seems to not like to give money with time conditions against their expectations.

I agree with your calculations but some managers seem to not have done this math yet. As result, what we have are poor hiring evaluations, horrible onboarding, etc.

Like the sibling commenter said, there are different venues for providing rental supply, sometimes making a public or private investment. Again, I am not advocating either way as I am not in real state industry to have perspective on it.

I was with the impression that most of the cooperatives in Denmark would not allow rentals to curb real state speculation. Well, at least in København there are so many rules that it is hard to navigate even as a tenant.
