True, I should have said most of Western/Northern Europe, I guess. Edit: Actually, Europe is so diverse that any blanket statement is mostly worthless.

10k for the average developer (in Europe) sounds a bit too high, 4k a bit too low, but closer to what I would expect.

Tools like ESLint or prettier are really top-notch. TypeScript itself is a really nice language, too. Its type system is pretty powerful, more than one would expect certainly. Going from TypeScript to Kotlin feels like such a downgrade in t

Having written my own CommonMark parser, I often wonder if I should have used some kind of parser generator. Can I use this to parse CommonMark (in 100% compliant way)? – And, can I parse it such that I can recreate the original Markdown ba

I don't think the program itself needs elevated privileges, because it only reads from stdin and writes to stdout. I am running the interception tools as systemd service, though. I think the Intercepton Tools themselves need elevated p

I am pretty sure this is possible. The program called by Interception Tools can basically do anything (including being stateful), it just reads input events, rewrites it, ignores it, or raises entirely different input events etc. You could

I am also using a custom keyboard layout (basically the movement layer from the NEO layout + left alt → left ctrl, right alt → left alt, caps lock → esc). Initially it was implemented as xmodmap, then as xkb layout and finally as C program

React Portals could also help here, allowing you to still use context and the like.

I'd agree in general, but that hardly works for larger teams or even multiple teams. This can probably be solved by a good linting tool, but I am not too familiar with the state of linting in Kotlin.

I can't give specific examples, but something along the lines of suggesting to replace an early return in the form of `if (…)` by something like `… ?:return`. The former alternative makes it way easier to spot on first glance where the

For us particular, we heavily rely on fat frameworks like Spring (and sometimes Java EE) and there is nothing like that in TypeScript/JavaScript world. It boils down to not having classpath scanning, reflection and annotations in TypeS

TypeScript really hits the sweet spot for me. A good type system (real union types, which Kotlin lacks), barely any special syntax to remember but still powerful enough. I do want nominal typing sometimes, though. Although I must admit that

Kotlin really is good and definitely an improvement over Java, but in my experience (like ~1 year) the language itself makes writing unreadable code too easy; it also doesn't help that IDEs like IntelliJ Idea often suggest shorter yet

Integration tests can outlive refactorings. Unit tests rarely do. Delete your unit tests after your integration tests pass. At least those unit tests that heavily rely on stubbing.

I'v always liked the idea of literate programming, but I was always wondering how it actually feels in practice. Do they usual editor/IDE features still work like in a non-literate environment? – I assume it might work in Emacs, b
