I’m very nostalgic about the countless hours I frittered away on video games and the internet as an adolescent. Part of me thinks it made me the person I am today, who I am proud of. I recently joined a Counter Strike team with work and had

Thanks for the great read! I enjoy your style and I can see you’re also a big fan of Ted Chiang and Ursula Le Guin. Are there any other authors you’d recommend who’ve been big influences for you?

Sidebery - wow! I'd looked for a vertical tab add-on to no avail last year, but this is incredible. Thanks. It still boggles my mind that everything is made to go horizontal on default Windows/Mac UIs when desktops are widescreen

Yes, I can see the difference, but I (personally) don't notice that difference while reading. I do notice a big difference when using older monitors with lower DPI compared with 1080p on a normal-sized desk monitor, however.

Been a while since my eyesight tested, but I think so! I can see pixels if I focus but not when reading text at any speed. I have also checked and my display is only 24" (could've sworn it was more!) so maybe that's why. I re

> You lost me right here on line 1. I'm on Windows and can confirm 1. is an issue. Windows lets users scale UIs to be readable at high DPI on small screens. Doesn't work on all UIs (e.g. QGIS). So maybe not all OS's, but t

Yeah, I suppose you can be a realist or pessimist to a degree and live without anxiety. I think a lot comes down to how you attribute negativity. Take the riots going on at the moment. An extreme optimist might say they're just another

From what I've read, and from my personal experience, is that anxiety comes from negative, inward-looking and expansive understanding of events. That is, anxious people tend to assume the worst, make things more personal (maybe it happ

So all my late nights playing video games as a teenager could've been justified had I only phrased it as "doing a PVT for cognitive studies"?!

Would you mind sharing your Instagram? I'd love to see your progress - I'm sure it would be inspiring for others to follow your lead (even if you're not quite Picasso yet)

Fun note: it's one of these proverbs that people know the context for but not many (at least, not me until recently) really understands why it means what it does. Apparently it's because the old English usage of "have" i

Your English is great if this post is anything to go by. Also, I think people are quite forgiving of language mistakes if the content is interesting. Don't let your self-consciousness get in the way of sharing cool stuff!

Shipping is a conservative industry that's barely had to change to meet the digital revolution. It's not surprising it doesn't understand digital risk. Also, as someone who used to work at Maersk, I can attest to the fact tha

We're currently at +90 million people per year. The UN predicts that to drop by around 1 million people per year [1], which would mean the total population is still increasing for another 90 years. [1] https://ourworldindata

I’ll add The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss to this, having recently gotten into Brandon Sanderson. Probably my favourite fantasy series. Lots of similarities to the Mistborn Series.

Doesn't seem too surprising. Mindfulness & meditation, shown to improve cognitive abilities, are all about clearing the mind, rather than actively using the mind for recall or calculation.
