I've heard of taboos forbidding discussion in religious contexts, for religious (superstitious) reasons, but what definition of taboo are you using that it doesn't just mean "forbidden"? There's a taboo to marrying

I hate that it's the case, but generally the ones doing the dumb stuff during the hiring process are HR, and you'll not be interacting with them for 99% of the job once hired. Even before LLMs they were using AI and dumber applica

Yeah, I think GP is right and this all feels like word play to me. Let's say you're making your ideal wood chair for your living room. You're "fretting" over getting the arms, legs perfectly aligned, surfaces smooth

I think the simple explanation is that they weren't selling scraping countermeasures, they were selling web-based denial of service protection (which may be caused by scrapers).

I had signed up for an Apple Developer account for "sign in with apple". I had auto-renew on. For the last month or so I was getting increasingly urgent emails about "Your Apple Developer Program membership expires in X days.

I thought this too, but it's still weird. Machines that make e.g. paper are great. They are immensely more efficient, but extremely consistent and superhuman (try making that perfectly smooth letter paper by hand). Human written softwa

What was the issue with MPS? MPS also looks like "custom widgets in normal text-based java" i.e. mixed paradigms and not "ground up ast-based editing". I'm not sure if I can agree with your other points. I can'

I think GP's point is that instead of having 3 target-specific rust-built binaries, they have 3 target-specific node binaries running rust-built wasm plus wrapper code.

After reading a comment here about how google docs had awesome markdown handling (I didn't know it supported it at all) I tried it out and it was bad to the extent that I don't think I'll use it again. I can't remember e

That would tell you if there's a bitflip in your test, but not if there's a bitflip in normal program code causing a crash, no? IIUC GP's questions was how do they actually tell after a crash that that crash was caused by a b

It doesn't say "only if there's a covered application store present on the system". But maybe everyone in power will interpret this non-logically in exactly the right way that this doesn't become abusive.

I agree, and I feel like this happened more vaguely before but it's coming more acutely into focus now. E.g. music artists would happily post their music with unattributed cover art. I've seen graphic artists post video slideshows
