How did you get such a cheap machine? The cheapest root server right now is about 45, the cheapest server auction is 35.

If the parent means the 7 digit style when referring to authys own topt format: Cloudflare and humble bundle use those. Thankfully Aegis also supports these.

You're right, I just found them on YouTube and Tidal. Low effort is a good description though, the entire album is insanely repetitive.

Ooh, I think I found something like that too , a few years ago. I searched for a song (a real one, that I already knew) called "Dyson Sphere". That search still yields a few hits. One of those was by an artist called Adal, and whi

That's a good idea, thank you! I simply installed zsh over the package manager, autocomplete seems to work other than rsync. I'll look into it when I get back to the computer and report back.

I've switched from bash to zsh a few weeks ago and overall, I'm pretty happy. Menu based auto completion for example is extremely nice. But I could never get auto complete for rsync to work. I have some hosts in ~/.ssh/c

Luckily our (and probably your) justice system isn't built on "an eye for an eye" then, and instead on punishment and rehabilitation.

Hm, I think you're mixing some things. A nation state could be embedding root certificates via a vendor, see Lenovo superfish (I know this wasn't done by the government, but that somehow makes it even worse). But a nation state ac

I think we really only own our phones if we're able to install a custom ROM like Lineage on them. Otherwise we pay to have bloat and ads shoved in our faces. It would be ideal if all devices we buy were unlockable, but sadly that'

This is exactly what I have done too. Purchase the ad-supported version for (I think) 40 Euros less and simply never connect to the internet. That was over five years ago and I still don't regret it. It has one more advantage: the firm

I'm vegetarian, and I'm offended. Mostly by that god awful Alegria-like prictogram on the first product packaging. It's bad enough we have to see these hose-armed and hose-legged people pictograms from every tech company, but

I've been a vegetarian for almost twenty years now, so my memory is a bit faded and the vegetarian and vegan products have changed a lot in that time. My experience is that it greatly depends on the type of product. I've never, ev

I think one common way to "bypass" 2FA is to have the carrier send you (the attacker) a second SIM card. If I'm not misremembering, the text message is then delivered to both cards, the original holder and the attacker. So se

Did you use python specific functions like list comprehensions, or "classic" for/while loops? Because I've found the former to be surprisingly fast, while naive for loops are incredibly slow in python.

This sadly happened in Germany, actually. We have a state sponsored weather forecast service, who also released a free Android (and possibly IOS) app. They were successfully sued by a for-profit commercial weather app (that even uses the pu

People who already have a house may want it expensive, but even that is a double edged sword. People who don't already have a house certainly do not want them to be expensive.

I've rented a VW E-Up once that was pretty low tech despite being fully electric. Physical key that has to be inserted next to the steering wheel to start the car (but can lock/unlock the doors like a normal fob), classic car radi

I don't doubt that some washing machine control units are encased in silicone/epoxy, but not all of them are. I've repaired two which were not, although both were very cheap units. You can see original replacement parts on eb

In the past three years I've repaired two washing machines whose main PCBs were not coated (neither were they broken, the washaing machines were defective elsewhere). One was a Beko, so more on the cheap side, and one was some Aldi-bra
