Are you familiar with quadratic voting? It takes into account much of what you’re taking about, with the benefit of being less gameable.

Definitely agree. Also, one minor point: PoW/PoS are technically Sybil control mechanisms, not consensus mechanisms. PoW/PoS rate-limit block producers, but actual consensus is achieved by something like Practical Byzantine Fault

If there were two, or ten, food safety inspection groups, we could figure out which ones had trustworthy ratings. No need for end consumers to inspect every restaurant (every app) individually. That's what Epic is asking for - to have

This idea comes from Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). Most mainstream economists do not agree with it. But the MMT claim is that at base, people only need USD because it’s how taxes are denominated. The notion is that without the driving force

No inclusion of Bezos, Gates, or Zuckerberg in this list. It’s not clear that there was even a rules-based method for selecting their “50 richest families”… The data seem cherry-picked.

An “old energy production source” can be cheaper now because the environmental damage it causes is an unpriced externality. A carbon tax solves that by giving a price to that environmental damage. Suddenly, fossil fuels only make sense in t

It's a misleading comparison. They are comparing the cost of an on-chain Bitcoin transaction to the immediate energy cost of a Visa transaction. On average, one on-chain Bitcoin transaction corresponds to 1000s of total transactions, s

At its core, criticism of Bitcoin as bad for the environment is premised on the notion that Bitcoin is just a pointless game, rather than a useful piece of infrastructure. If it achieves everything that Bitcoin maximalists claim it will (mo

It’s big in the crypto/DeFi space. Lots of thinking around “mechanism design” - how to engineer a system of incentives where some desired outcome is the stable equilibrium.

There are L2s that solve this, in exchange for slower inclusion into the main chain. Or you can just trade wrapped BTC on another network. In that case, the Bitcoin main chain functions like a gold depository institution in traditional fina
