Not a (drug) policy expert by any means, but my speculation is that drug legalization is too much of a "soft on crime" move to be politically viable in most places. Note that this doesn't require that a majority of people are

like C++, rust frees values once they've gone out of scope; the result of CString::new(filename.as_str()).unwrap() is a temporary which is freed at the end of that line, since the .as_ptr() returns a non-lifetime-encumbered va

I work on (well, mostly near) an extensible C compiler, designed so extension authors can independently create extensions, and users can import them as easily as libraries: https://github.com/melt-umn/ableC/ (and

My constant struggle is some motherboards (mine!) refuse to boot the Windows installer from the UDF-formatted image Microsoft provides as a download; IIRC I have to copy all the files to a FAT32 partition on the disk instead. (I assume thei

For real -- SLIME's almost 2 decades old, and having used it makes me hate developing Python and JavaScript; being able to fix up broken code when it throws an exception, without having to restart the program is just so dang nice durin

hcreate is POSIX, hcreate_r (which allows having multiple hashmaps per process) is the GNU extension, iirc. I thought POSIX added a bunch more safe pointer casts, but I don't know off the top of my head...

That's a different style of proof, based on equational reasoning; Agda [0], Coq [1] and Lean [2] are three theorem provers that work with those proofs better. Being able to quickly and informally perform equational reasoning on functio

On my machine, which to my knowledge hasn't had this setting changed, ulimit -l reports each process can only lock 64KiB of memory... I feel like "you should use mlock()" isn't really practical advice.

That's part of my concern, though since scripts can use the CPU arbitrarily, they could already mine on the CPU. A larger concern is bugs like [0], since GPU drivers are highly complex and highly privileged code. [0]: https:/

Kinda :/ on there not being a GPU permission (that I can find in the post or the docs); GPUs/GPU drivers have been a vector for some pretty nasty attacks in the past...

Well, the point isn't to have errors for a lack of documentation, the point is that dependent types offer a lot of expressiveness in modelling what it means for programs to be valid in your domain, both so the compiler can tell the pro

I definitely prefer miniKanren, but (with a small sample size) find that non-logic programmers have an easier time reading simple Prolog than equally-simple miniKanren.
