TypeKit has a lot of countermeasures to ensure that the fonts are used according to the license, and not by anyone who isn't allowed to or through proxy's or something. I don't know the details but had a run-in with this in the past, resolv

Have the retina. It's an awesome machine, and his points are correct: * A lot of them suffer from burn-in, mine doesn't (I have a samsung display). I'm lucky! * The scrolling is jittery at times. Yes I do notice. * You can't really update a

Thanks for this contra-point! Interesting to see Elon reply to this description. Personally I have more reason to believe EM than Eric, but still, as always the truth probably lies somewhere in between.

In the book "The Paypal Wars", an account of the almost complete history of Paypal through the eyes of one of its employees, Elon Musk is painted as a stubborn, semi-ass. According to the book, when he was assigned as CEO after the merger,

Exactly. It makes the contrast, one of the selling points, more noticeable than if everything around it was white. The black case of the previous kindle was in my opinion a very good design choice.

I see a lot of uninformed and unwarranted (apple-)hate in this thread. The removal tool, is a reference to how Apple includes the "SIM removal" tool with iPhones, which is just a paperclip. To me, it's obvious that you can just use a normal

I don't think so. The average filesize of a JPEG image on the web is what, 50KB? At those sizes, it's just not worth it to put a system in place that could introduce more bugs through extra complexity. Especially since duplicate images woul

Learning the syntax of programming for GPU is easy. The problem is porting algorithms to utilize the GPU most efficiently. This means taking into account SIMD architecture, warps, different kinds of memory, ... It's easy to port code to run

Is it really that important for sites like this to "be the first" or at least "at the same time" of other press releases? It was 12 hours, most of your readers probably didn't read about it yet, why not just post about it? I wouldn't have n

The bashing of MP3 in that article is unwarranted. I can't find any decent source, but I'm pretty sure a 192kbps MP3 is indistinguishable from a CD for 99.999% of the people. Especially with the crappy included headphones everyone is using.

Yes, and it requires quite a low-level understanding of the architecture to "think GPU". SIMD, warps, blocks, threads, different memory types, no branching/identical branching per core, ... Some of this could probably be abstracted away but
