Bellovin's Governments and Cryptography: The Crypto Wars is the most grand & sweeping review of governments & encryption across time that I've seen! https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-farrell

Uhhh I feel like rocket makers are obsessed with efficiency. A modest half a percent makes a huge difference in fuel fraction & lift capabilities. Rockets may be broadly inefficient but they are as efficient as we can make them.

Really hoping we start to see 100Gbit/25Gbit start getting more available/affordable on ebay, for the servethehome crowd in particular.

For sake of argument let's say the US military is a fine institution & let's say corporations making a profit supporting it is fine. But my god, the inefficiency & fleecing being done by corporations is ghastly. It's

It's also notable that Intel keeps getting faster. The other folks have been tuning their drivers for decades & Intel, with a brand new chip, has been making their current two cards significantly faster since launch.

> If power and efficiency issues are resolved, My gut feel is that this is a pretty grossly inefficient system by nature. Inducing current in seawater just to give magnetic traction something to push off against seems semi absurd.

I agree there is a really sad anti-hobbyist bias. The FAA are criminal in holding back anything other than incredibly big industry, but I still tend to think it's mostly negligence & scale, that they have real concerns at scale to

The grandstanding on being a poor oppressed victim, being treated as bad as the worst political prisoners in history, is really something. And the judge telling him to wrap it up!

This is a willldddd take, that deeply mischaracterizes the EFF. There's a ton of places where EFF & Big Tech don't line up. Glomming them together & saying they all are trying to wreck content creators is a severe misdeed.

Bunch of interesting loosenings ups on logical replication. Allowing standbys to also have subscribers; great for fan out! Bunch of perf improvements (honestly a bunch of it is removing rather onerous limitations I didn't know about!)

The Brilliant Pebbles work supposedly was going to need at least 400 missile satellites to work. That alone seems like a significant coordination problem, especially for the time. And it relied on very early detection & interception.
