This concept is so strange. I'm not sure what country you are from, but I'm going to assume the US. Would you think it was OK if another country destroyed something in America because they thought it was damaging the environment.

Cynical me thinks that if NASA tried to get funding for a project that could detect large scale methane plumes which might be used against the oil and gas industry they might just not be able to get that funding.

I hear what you are saying. I think this class of problem is one that the legal profession have solved mostly . Their solution is the "reasonable person" test. Would a mythical "reasonable person" believe what the person

Step one, get rid of the money in politics. Step two, solve people's problems.

That is an interesting point. But maybe we don't even need to preemptively define harmful speech. You could just say people are responsible for what they say and if somebody then harms someone based on what you said (and it was untrue)

We have many curbs on alcohol. Many to prevent situations like you describe. Maybe it is responsible to also limit speech especially when it can cause harm.

I appreciate the feedback and I'll be updating the site to add it all in. Thanks! I think we can definitely help out with your stack, my email is in my profile if you want to get in touch.

Yes, I'll need to update the site. I'm always torn between putting too much info there or not enough, but I guess I need more. We don't keep an image per customer. But we do have general images, so something like ruby-2.8-nod

Just saw the question about testing splitting - yes there is automation magic. You give us a command to list your tests and we split them as optimally as we can.

Thanks, the kind words really do mean a lot! So each prebuilt environment is basically a container that is exclusively accessed by your test runner. We set up the environment in the container and code and tests are run there. So there is no

Yea, that sounds somewhat normal. I see builds getting bigger when you add in a bunch of yarn packages, building assets and webpacker etc. As projects get larger these tend to bloat up. You might be interested in looking at this demo of a R

Listen I'm not defending queuing, I think that that is not the correct way to do things. But people definitely do. Current services queue.

I think you'd be surprised how long some tests queue waiting for a runner - but I do agree with you that it's not the longest delay running tests, and it is relatively easy to fix with budget. I would say our solution mostly break

Python is actually on the roadmap, it's next up. Is it something you are interested in? We are in the process of trialing our solution with one other company, I'd love to add you to our beta test if that was something you'd b

It's interesting to see CI wait times as core engineering metric. I 100% agree, so much so that I'm building a product specifically to speed up CI. We have redesigned how hosted CI works focusing on speed as our north star. We don

One of my first jobs was in Tcl and I still wake up with night sweats about it. Some languages were just meant to die. I have no idea why anyone would be interested in using it in 2022.

This article is super strange. It just seems wrong on so many levels. First off, I’m a coffee nerd who owns a coffee company and I don’t have an espresso machine in my house. I use a chemex and am perfectly happy with it. I don’t even want

This is not true. In a theoretical market it may be true but in a real world market it just is not. People don’t make rational decisions. Prices don’t reflect what “should”happen. Landlords increase rent because they can. No shade on landlo

Moore’s law was a marketing road map for intel. It was basically a monopolistic warning from one of the founders not to release new products too fast so the company wouldn’t burn out. It worked. But it’s not some scientific or physical law

(Ignoring the premise that this is an efficient market - which it very much isn't) So ad fraud is a victimless crime? Where is the money that the fraudsters are earning coming from? Who are they taking that money from?

Have a very similar setup to yourself. I'd recommend ECS using RDS for postgres. Code pipeline for building. I find it very seamless and a hell of a lot cheaper than heroku.

I'm not a free speech maximalist like many people in the US. I think many things should be against the law for people to say. Inciting violence, hate speech etc. What concerns me about this is arbitrary use of the police and censorship

There has also been a lot of censorship of tv shows (last week tonight got censored) and of signs held at football matches etc which have been removed from television broadcasts.
