I don't know if it's crazy, but I wouldn't say that site is the answer. Yes, it has the open source word all over it, but have you spent two minutes to look at the content? Most of the "relevant" stuff is just to comply with third party OSS

I don't think it's about "rejection" but a practical thing. When starting a project you may need some 3rd party stuff (library, framework, etc) that doesn't support Python 3 (yet; for different reasons, sometimes the project is unmaintained

You're partially right. For a beginner a classical guitar is definitely better (more space in the neck to put the fingers, the nylon strings in 1-3 are easier/less painful for untrained fingers, no need to plug it in an amp, etc), but the g

I guess it depends on how the DNS server deals with the wildcard domain. I can tell you that djbdns doesn't care about the part covered by the wildcard, it will happily resolve _!test.domain (although it is an invalid name according to the

I actually hosted a demo for that repo in a different server. I'm not saying it's useful to host your own demo (although it could be a temporarily demo deployed on demand). I think 5minfork is cool if you want to try a project and the repo

Liferea supports Tiny Tiny RSS sync, so that could be it. You can host http://tt-rss.org/ and use Liferea as desktop app (and may be the web interface for mobile). In fact that's the only part that I really liked of Google Reader: it was

Yes, I agree. In fact I can't see how distro incompatibilities or fragmentation affects a desktop user when you're using one distro. Icaza use case is far for the average desktop use case I think. I'm both Ubuntu (Dell) and Fedora (Dell)

I don't know if it is a valid argument or not, but according to Bazaar docs it's one of Bazaar's strong points. AFAIK the official Lanuchpad FAQ says Bazaar is the best VCS for the project: https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+faq/37

Launchpad supports Bazaar only. That's one of the "top ten reasons" to switch to Bazaar according to the docs [1]. That said, I don't really think Canonical is "forcing" anyone besides playing the "defaults" card in the distribution they co

I agree that, in general, you don't want to maintain a fork because that's a lot of work (or more work than contributing the changes so they're included and maintained upstream), but I don't like the idea of losing the benefits of open sour

It could mean that you need more C++ to do stuff (or less Python code to do stuff, whatever your like). What I'm saying is that "amount of code" is not a valid magnitude when comparing different languages. In my experience converting some u

Circa 1999 I studied Minix in a operating design course, but in the same way we studied Amoeba or Mach; in fact we used a pre 1.0 Linux kernel for practice (I don't remember the distro, it could be custom), and it was small enough to unders

I totally agree. I started on the Internet circa 1998 and I've always regretted using popular free services back then, because most of them didn't survive to our days (the popular "X got acquired by Y, X was closed"). I got a domain in 2002
