Been using http://domainsite.com for about 5 years now. Low prices, not nearly as much BS as GoDaddy. Sorely lacking in the user interface department (again, not as bad as GoDaddy), but aside from that I've never had problems with them.

It's worth noting that the writer of "I, Cringely" has pumped out more than just a few off-base Apple articles in the past. Apple merges with Intel, Apple teams up with Blockbuster, Apple to stop making hardware, Apple buys Adobe...

Same thing except a lot more cuts, and it ends right after the dad says 'Gates and Seinfeld...!' The long version of this ad does a better job of conveying the 'normal people' theme, but the short version is as confusing as the first.

Not sure that this is going to help anyone, but since we're on the topic of DNS stuff, I thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who wants control of their domains without having to run a DNS server: I've been immensely happy with Every

Definitely getting tired of this martyrdom fantasy where people post an opinion followed by something along the lines of "Go ahead and mod me down for having the bravery and courage to speak out against the vile things of this world which y

"So just don't answer the question." Are you seriously suggesting this? It seems clear to me (and presumably to anyone else who has ever interacted with curious children) that this is a completely impractical and unrealistic solution. Have

I've designed it so that the user doesn't see the voting option for importance until after they've voted for the accuracy of the quote.

Since my YC app deals with this directly, I've been thinking about it a lot. My idea has to do with voting quotes up/down (kinda like Jyte, http://jyte.com ). In allowing people to vote up/down, I realized that there needed to be a separa

I just experienced this dilemma with the 'Facebook Sucks' post by Dave Winer (heh) that went up on YC news earlier today or last night. I thought the linked story was pretty lame, but at the same time, I thought it was an interesting conver

Your post and the one above by Goladus have helped me change my attitude towards this. Thanks for your replies. That "pre-Web 1.0" stab wound will certainly take time to heal, though ;)

Maybe, but the thing is...Facebook is pretty awesome. I know that probably sounds a little juvenile, but that's the attitude that most of its users have. They could care less about having control of their data. The vast majority have no clu

Uhhh...maybe I'm missing something, but who cares about Facebook being an address book? "Reddit sucks -- you can't use it to reserve seats at your local movie theater! You know what else you can't do? Thwart velociraptors. When is someone g

I do UI, design, HTML, and CSS. I can code and I've done a lot of work with LAMP setups, but I don't really consider myself much of a hacker (mostly because I don't really love hacking as much as I do design, and I'm definitely not as goo

Hehe, yeah, but I've just read so many stories gushing about all these totally crazy things which will happen in -- wait for it! (but not too long) -- THE FUTURE. And a lot of them have seemed practical/obvious/awesome, but in the end, they

It will be fascinating to see this play out. My wife creates resin sculptures ( http://camilleart.com ), and I know firsthand how time-consuming the process is. With a 3D scanner, she could sell her figurines online and let people print/d

I'll toss another hat in Tufte's ring. His stuff can be pretty meta, but once the concepts are in your head, you start looking at design much differently. If I hadn't read 'The Quantitative Display of Visual Information' I think that my des

This kind of situation is prevalent in so many parts of life. I've wasted so much time trying to concisely explain it that I've often found myself wishing there was a simple name/reference for it. How about "Catch 4!-2".
