I remember the last time I got involved in one of these discussions, where the same give-and-take was brought up: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.lang.ruby/vWcRBbg8VGE/0...

You beat me to this issue. When I read this code I cringed, because it's so naïve it's like reading something intentionally pessimized, such as "if(new String("true").equals(new Boolean(b).toString()){...}" instead of "if(b){...}".

The stellar thing about manual controls on digital cameras is that you can get a "feel" for the compromises and advantages of various combinations of settings very quickly. What took a big chunk of every project during semester with a K100

OWC has SSD upgrades for the 2011 MBAs (I bought one the day before the announcement–I should have waited until suddenly it became an obsolescent part) and I suspect they will develop the same for the new flat flash sticks. They also have

Actually, the key difference with "enterprise" SSD is that they overprovision the drive to have a cell reserve. That's why you can buy a 512Go consumer drive or a 480Go enterprise drive. As cells get wonky, they are 'replaced' from the rese

I am another Colemak user. I use a Truly Ergonomic keyboard on my desktop, and having to look at the keyboard because of the odd placement of enter, tab, quotes, etc. absolutely kills my throughput compared to my laptop.

I can't tell if you meant that in a pejorative way, but are you sure? BSEE, started a "big data" company a thousand years ago which is still the "Xerox" of its industry. I doubt he solders today, but he has the background to understand the

Go to a hotel. It's the only reliable way to catch a cab in SF. Choose nicer hotels and if the pickings are still slim, $5 to the doorman will resolve the problem pretty quickly. Even less-nice hotels are good for cabs if they have a nota

I've done this myself (hey, look, no self-linking to Amazon!) and the Mac application Scrivener is probably a better starting point. It's free for 30 days (of use, no less), supports much better outline-based editing, and can easily export

You should specify Mac OS 9 when you say OS9. As soon as you said OS9, I thought you meant, well, OS9. OS9 definitely had pre-emptive multitasking about a hundred million years ago.
